I know, last time I didn't do so well. I called Radcliffe a nasty name because he critiqued my picture. Well, here's another shot I took that I'm fond of, so if you don't like this one, you can crush my heart once again.

Iraqi?

Seriously though, my main problem with it is the sky is so broad yet not much is happening with the sky. There is a tiny gradient towards the bottom, but otherwise it is one color. The silouette(sp bad I know), is small and unfortunately not level with the horizon (see left side). If you would've taken the pic maybe 10-15 minutes earlier I think that your composition would be vastly different. Its cool that you are going out and taking pics. Keep trying and definitely post more.

I agree. And I would add that if you're going to take a photo with such a broad distance between the subject matter on the ground and where you are actually shooting from, either it needs to be lighter out or there needs to be more on the horizon to create some contrast. It is one step above being a piece of modern art in that respect. At a glance, it just looks like two colors. I always end up taking like 40 shots of the same thing to try different things to see if I get better results. The sunset looks like it was great though.

I was gonna say it looks like the cover to a Kyuss album but I just checked them out and it doesn't.

I like it. The photo should look great if you really blow it up to say, 11x14 or larger dimensions, though I'm not sure if that'll make the small details look grainy or not.

Good job, nice composition.

Thanks for the critiques, all (Timis, you know I was kidding, right? ).

And thanks for the link, K. There's some great/useful stuff on that site!

Who do you think you are?
PopTodd?

I think the photo looks beautiful.
Pretty special to capture one shooting star, but 2?

Nice.

The foreground is too dark.

It's a nice photo but not great. Keeping taking photos. All professional photographers will tell you that the key to becoming a great photographer is to take a LOT of photos.

The thing to remember about taking horizon shots is that you must think of the horizon in thirds, ie, top, middle, bottom. Also, your 'subject' -- the farm/house in the distance -- would've been spectacular if you had been closer or zoomed in more, thus allowing for a very cool silhouette look. Capturing the jet trails was cool -- cooler would've been if it had been a longer time-lapsed photo.

Nice. I agree about the farmhouse being closer.

Go out and do it again. Those shooting stars are probably still there.

I'm not following. If I had zoomed in closer to the farmhouse, I would have cut the trails out of the pic. I cropped this pic, but now I've cut out the 3rd, less visible trail that was in the lower left corner of the screen.

Did it help, or is this not what you mean?

Now, you're fucking with the image by cropping. A true blue photographer knows that it's all about composition. Sure, you could use all kindsa cool digital software to make the photo look like what you intended it to. But, it's the initial shot, the image you see via your viewfinder that results in that GREAT photo you want when you press the shutter.

Oh ayah. Relax.

I just meant that at a glance the photo just looked like two solid colors with no real detail of anything. You know, when you go look at some modern art and it is like a canvas that just has to solid colors on it. Or worse yet it's just a blank canvas. Talk about asinine.

Go make some spaghetti-o's and leave me the hell alone. :)
