I say listen to it if you like it, and ignore it if not. Sounds like hip hop is not your thing...

FWIW Fishscale is the one hip hop album I really enjoyed this year, and it is just outside of my top 20

you don't have to listen to new hip hop if you don't want to

i've found myself liking a lot of hip hop and rap singles every year, but rarely enjoying the albums. (and it's not because of skits that kill flow.) this year, though, one local artist seemingly played a free show every month and press for the album was everywhere, so i heard it a few times and really liked it. that one will be on my albums list.

like anyone here cares that some obnish doesn't listen to hip hop? i don't think that's much of a shock.

I've been trying to give several '06 rap albums a chance, and the only one that's done much for me is Clipse. Yet that album alone has renewed my interest. I've even come close to buying that T.I. album, but I refuse to pay full price for it (c'mon, yourmusic).

My tastes shifted away from hip-hop in 1991 so that's when I stopped paying attention. I think the last thing I bought was "The Low End Theory," so at least I went out on a high note.

The last rap album I enjoyed all the way through was Dre's 2001. I listened to a few new rap albums in '06 (The Roots, Spank Rock, Clipse, Jurassic 5) and aside from a few songs I didn't hear anything worth listening to over and over.

The Roots album sounded pretty cool, though. The music.

See your problem is you are listening to that backpack hippie bullshit. Pull out a banger like TI and see what you like.

I liked the new Juvenile from 2006. It's even on my list.

The problem with rap records is that they just aren't long enough.
