So, what 2006 albums have you heard for the first time in 2007, which would have made your Best of 2006 List had you heard them last year?

For me, it's without a doubt Costello Music by The Fratellis. In fact, it just might have been my #1 last year -- definitely Top 5.

I wrote about it on Hip-D today:

That would have been a contender for me as well. The most definite one on my list would have been Willie Nile's Streets of New York. Fantastic album that I just heard a couple of weeks ago.

It's 2007. Why would I listen to 2006 music?

i heard them late in 2006 (not 2007), but viva voce & css probably would've snuck in if i had another 6 weeks.

Yeah, I assumed Chaz already tried it as well. Still a big fan.

It was you that made me soil my kilt. At least Derris maintained some sort of universal equillibrium.

candi staton
fujiya & miyagi
micah p. hinson

i really like all 3 of these albums...but not sure any would've cracked the top 20.

even though we don't put compilations in our top-20, a great one from 2006 that i just recently got to is journey into paradise: the larry levan story. it's a collection of some of larry levan's favorite cuts (though, hardly anything from non-warner majors) from the paradise garage. holy moly, this has some amazing funk gems.

I hate to say it but I found 2006 to be very dissapointing.

There hasn't been year in my entire music-purchasing "career" where I have felt compelled to sell so many of my recently-purchased CDs.

I hardly ever sell anything, even my old cds. This year I've sold off almost every 2006 release I bought. I know it sounds drastic, but it's true.

If I miraculously discover the "good" albums from 2006 in the near future I'll most definitely post them here.

I'll say it again...2006 was the best year for new music in at least 15 years. You people were just listening to the wrong albums.

I haven't heard anything yet in 2006 that i missed and don't think i'd change my list at all.
