The kings of the stupid guitar solos are:
The Bonzo Dog Band.
With tracks like "Fresh Wound" and "Can Blue Men Sing the Whites?"

Although, I would like to submit a Hop On Pop entry for the title, as well:
"Bound To Fail"
http://iacmusic.com/songs.aspx?SongID=3 ... stID=10003

And, in the non-guitar category: the incredibly stupid violin solo in Camper Van Beethoven's verion of "Wasted" is a beaut.

Are there any other incredibly STUPID solos, that you think vie for the title?

I knew there was another Bonzo example I was missing!
Thanks!

And that great Bonzo Dog non-guitar solo--Roger Ruskin Spears solo on the electric shirt collar in "Shirt."

For guitars, how about the solo on XTC's "Love at First Sight"--one chord gradually strummed faster and faster.

Neil Young's one-note-solo on "Cinnamon Girl" is classically stoopid.

Lol, Neil was the first person who came to my mind, but anything XTC does on that disc (Black Sea) is aces, in my book.

Boredom by Buzzcocks is pretty stupid.

It's also in my Top Ten guitar solos of all time.

"Stupid" meaning awesome for this thread?

Not hair metal riffing, then? Those are "tugs" for "totally useless guitar solo."

Although this can be funny too... e.g. in Weird Al's "Generic Blues"...
the solo starts and he's all like "make it talk, man, make it talk..." and after the extended repetitive "solo" he's all "now make it shut up."

Heh heh. I crack me up.

I meant "stoopid" as in "stoopid like a fox."

I love that part - how it just sounds crazy as it overtakes the beat until everyone lands on the bridge. That period XTC has some of my favorite guitar stuff.

But, yes, probably stupid.
