It isn't a great album, but it does have a few good hooks. I probably wouldn't buy it but I'll send them a few bucks for taking the initiative. This should be the new business model for artists who claim it's "really all about the music" and want to stay away from major labels. Hopefully more groups follow suit.

I'm also glad to see they're using Lame to encode the mp3s, as well as offering ogg vorbis. Now if they would add FLAC they'd get full geek cred.

Wow, I just posted and then deleted a new topic on this... I guess it's really, really, really old news, but Techdirt just reported it. I'm not sure this worked out for ol' Harvey, given that even here there were no takers, but I think it's pretty cool.

um... i actually have this album. and it's pretty good. ("wine women & song" and "little round mirrors" are excellent.) i even saw them when they came through last year.

I saw them this past New Year's. They actually performed the entirety of side 2 of the Beatles Abbey Road, aided by a horn section and Jon Auer. Very fun show.
