Mel Brooks-worthy casting here:

Would you believe? Arkin joins "Get Smart"
By Borys Kit Wed Feb 28, 1:47 AM ET
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Freshly crowned Oscar winner Alan Arkin will reunite with his "Little Miss Sunshine" co-star Steve Carell in the big-screen version of "Get Smart."

Arkin will play the chief of CONTROL, the organization that fights the evil forces of KAOS. Edward Platt played the character in the 1960s sitcom.

Carell is on board as secret agent Maxwell Smart, with Anne Hathaway as Agent 99. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Terrence Stamp also have been cast.

Peter Segal is directing for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Arkin won a best supporting actor Oscar on Sunday for his work in "Sunshine." His upcoming projects include "Rendition," with Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, and "Sunshine Cleaning," with Amy Adams and Emily Blunt.

As 'meh' as I am about Carell, the Max Smart casting makes a lot of sense.

It's got perfect casting. Old farts will want to see Arkin, not-so-farty adults will go for Carell, my kids will want to see Hathaway and the remaining lunkhead factor will go for The Rock.

I'm ghey for Stamp, personally: the poor man's Anthony Hopkins.

Not generally a fan, but the addition of The Rock intrigues me. Could be potential for some seriously hillarious moments. Just with that (admittedly overused) eyebrow.

Although I'm waiting for John Cena to get into the comedy bit... just that Subway commercial he does with "Jared" shows the potential for some pretty good comedy chops, methinks.

Sorry.. need to clarify:
I am a Get Smat fan.
It's The Rock that I am not generally a fan of.

I should really start to read my posts before hitting "Submit".

I was going to say the same EXACT thing. And Anne Hathaway as 99 is GENIUS!
