so who is telling the truth here:

'But company spokeswoman Laurie Parker said the utility never got a request from the policy center and never gave it any information.'

in any case, that's a lot of juice, but if he runs his business out of his home, as i suspect he does part of the time, it might explain some of the extra usage.
still is a lot, tho.

The Daily Show lampooned the Hypocrisy of "Green" hollywood pretty good yesterday.

but if he lived...
100% green
or "carbon neutral"
or whatever
he couldn't have made the movie
had it shipped all over the world
had a shit ton of copies of the dvd produced

his actions are a small environmental sacrifice for the (hopefully) greater good

where do you draw the line? getting the message out - vs - living the message

you're going to have to cut a couple trees to save a million of them

he's not telling everyone to fly around in jets and deliver speeches on global warming

Charges of hypocrisy are ridiculous without clarifications.

How many buildings are there?

What sort of power is it?

Does green power reflect a different kilowatt usage rate vs. waste rate?

Are the figures accurate or made up?

How does it possibly negate the fact that global warming is indeed happening?

Etc. and etc.

I feel like if a conservative politician was accused of a similar gaff based on similar evidence, there would be a lot less protestething.

Actually here on Obner, I think if a conservative politician did the same thing, there would be a lot less making excuses for him/her.

I understand where Rads is coming from, that the problem exists regardless of Gore's energy consumption, etc., but that also doesn't make the hypocrisy any less irritating.

Oh, I'm not saying it can't possibly be true, just that the Tennessee Policy Research Center might not be all right and true, that it doesn't make global warning go away and that probably most politicians do severely hypocritical things.

Maybe Gore has a secret lab under house that's sucking up a city block worth of juice.

Wait, I think I may have just said EXACTLY what Haq said. I guess I just put the "BUTT" in rebuttal. Sorry about the lack of reading comprehension, Haq.

The Tennessee Policy Whatever Whatever is a conservative organization with a definite agenda. That cat is well out of the bag.

That said, Al Gore doesn't seem to be too big on making personal sacrifices. It's all well and good to buy up these carbon credits (or whatever they are called) to offset your use, but I think that just throwing money and not making behavioral adjustments for an issue aren't equal in my book. As is usually the case, the answer lies somewhere between the Gores and the Tennessee Policy Institute Hacks.

I think Americans are way too concerned with hypocrisy. If you believe in a principle or you think something is true, you should do your best to act on it. But just because you don't carry it out to the fullest doesn't make the principle any less true. The world would probably be a better place if we all lived like monks, but most of us aren't willing to make that big of a change overnight. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to change.

People like Sean Hannity pull this shit all the time on TV.

how much energy did the TN Policy Research Center waste in producing this report?

edit: also, from the AP article:
"Johnson said it's unclear whether global warming is caused by humans, and he said the threat outlined in Gore's documentary is exaggerated."

I don't know which fact you're disputing. Global warming? Human interference in climate change? You can dispute such things all you want, but you may as well join the Flat Earth Society while you're at it.
