hmm. Although I couldn't care less if the guy slit his own throat, I wouldn't exactly call slicing your chest with a knife "sane".

Yet, he didn't miss a song and played through several more of the band's tunes before breaking for an encore.

It must not have been that much of a chest slicing. Plus I would like to hear at least one other account of the event, aside from the dude with a blog.

Brah's in an indie-rock band that for the first six, seven years of its existence took the emo tag from the hipster elite that thought This is a long drive (for someone with nothing to talk about) was the greatest record since Led Zeppelin III. You didn't expect him to be a weakling, unable to severely pierce his own chest with a blade?

Come on, man, you're smarter than that.

Ever cut a dude's eye and then laugh at him for the rest of his set?
No one saw me do it. I'm a good friend.

I doubt any of the members of "The Murder City Devils" would call it a non-story. Apparently they're good friends with the girl in question.

I was just kidding. It was mainly to get in that line about Nolte. If it makes you feel any better, I do enjoy the new MM album.

Not directed at you. I couldn't really tell what you meant. There are plenty of people who still use that bitch's false accusation as a character attack on Brock.

are you related to Mr. Brock? You sure are pretty sensitive about the issue. And why is it a fact that he didn't do anything? Because he claims it is a false accusation? I just don't get the uber-sensitivity to the issue.

There's a news item about it on Pitchfork.

Quote:
According to reader Joshua Cole, after deliberately bonking his head, Brock "then walked back to his amp, grabbed a pocket knife, and cut a 12 inch cut across his chest. His assistant had to grab the knife and stop him. He was bleeding the rest of the concert, and later fell off the stage into the barrier before singing in the crowd."

Then they quote the same blog entry that has him just finishing the set, before returning for an encore.

Well, she took back her claim when the police came. So she is the one that said it didn't happen. You don't think that's a shit thing to do?

I would think that it would be a ridiculous thing to do if it were not true. However, there are plenty of times where I could imagine a girl who had been raped rescinded her claims to avoid the emotional distress of dealing with it in the public eye, etc. I am just saying, just because she took it back doesn't mean it is true that it didn't happen. I don't know if it did, but I could see it going both ways. But, just because she rescinded and he said that it didn't happen doesn't really make me hate this chick. haha.

I emailed my brother to get some info on this, since a friend of his was going to this show since he couldn't go to SXSW with them. I'm interested to see what his rather straightlaced girlfriend thought of this incident.
I did my undergrad at the University of South Dakota and not a lot of bands come through that state, I'm guessing most of the crowd was in shock or just too into being there to care.

isaac had a roommate that was an eye and ear witness to the non-raping of this girl

apparently he was even splitting a bedroom at the time that this happened...
so if a rape happened it was very quiet and discreet

so apparently girl followed him home... nothing nasty happened
then the crazy bitch yelled rape later
and isaac was pretty wrecked by the whole situation and had to leave seattle

I'm the first one to bring up Iggy?!

Yeah, but isn't Iggy known primarily for the time he impaled himself on the wine glass at Max's KC in NY? That was more of an accident that he took to a whole new level.

In the early days Isaac used to do a lot of shouting into the pick-ups of his guitar (like Jon Spencer back in the day). When my brother saw them, he was doing this and cut the shit out of his lip on a guitar string. He played the rest of the show bleeding from the mouth rather profusely.

So, yeah, nothing new.

As a footnote, why are you people all so blase about Modest Mouse? I personally can't think of a band that's put out great music more consistently and prolificly in the past 10 years.

Accidentally cutting your lip on a string during a show and playing while bleeding is different than purposefully cutting yourself across the chest. It's not the blood that I think people have "issue" with. My guess it is the intent involved in said cutting.

I guess one reason I am so blase about MM is because they're music is sort of blase. It has never really done anything for me and I don't really like it. I am not saying they're not good at what they do or anything of that nature but I just have yet to hear anything that really hits me right.
