So, I am customizing my new MacBook

I d/l'ed AOL IM for mac ver 4.7
I saved it to my desktop.

I goto launch what looks like a .bin file.
It opens up a test version of EXCEL on my computer, then tells me that the file cannot be opened.

I have deleted and re d/l'ed this file a few times to no avail.

Any advice would be appreciated

I don't know anything about Adium... but iChat works for me.

iChat seems ok....but...can you break up your list into groups (friends, family, work)? and also, can you give nicknames to each person? I can't remember every screen name?

A ".bin" file is a type of compressed file that should open with Stuffit Expander (which is free and *should have* come pre-installed I thought). For some reason your puter has associated a .bin file with Excel, which is wrong. If it happens again you can always Control-Click on the file which will give you a pop-up menu of options, including "Open With ->."

Other than that, what has been said above about iChat and Adium is all good.
