Has anyone seen A Very Long Engagement?

For those that don't know it's the latest Andrey Tatou movie and apparently it's very good.

I really wanted to see it at the cinema but for a number of reason I kept saying "I'll go see it next week" and now it's run has come to an end. Damn! I'll probably never get to see it on the big screen now.

Anyway has anyone else seen it? Opinions?

Don't give away any important plot details though I'll probably get it on DVD at some point.

Alternatively. any movies you really wanted to see at the cinema and didn't get round to seeing?

My No. 3 Film of the year. Watch it.

FYI: My No. 1 and 2 were Before Sunset and the Motorcycle Diaries, just to give you an idea of how much I loved A very Long Engagement.

Also, go watch Head-On (Gegen Die Wand). It's a German flick about Turks who live in Germany. Excellent.

It was decent. Not the best movie by that director, but definitely worth seeing.

ron howard was interviewed on charlie rose last night and he cast her as the female lead of the da vince code. i forget who the lead guy is going to be.

i'm not a fan of hers. she seems to be a one trick pony with her wide eyed innocence that directors milk her for. i probably just need to see more of her work.

now juliette binoche....

If you see The Spanish Apartment she comes off as kind of bitchy. And it is totally believable!

Well, it is based on a classic of Western literature.

seriously. it could make house party look like house party II. and on the tatou thing, after seeing Amelie i agreed with you, but some of her other movies (like Dirty Pretty Things or He loves me, he love me not) have disuaded me. she's got more versatility than i gave her credit for.

I also watched Dirty Pretty Things and He Loves He Loves Me Not, and she's definitely not the Amelie I've come to love. She's plays a psycho bitch in the latter.

I get to see every Academy Award nominated film for free (up until Oscar night) and once the nominations were announced A Very Long Engagement was the first movie I checked out. It's very good, although I had a couple problems with it.

Warning - I don't think there's a spoiler in the following paragraph, but some folks might disagree (though they'd be wrong).

Jeunet is an amazing visualist, and this film is filled with one profound image after another. The WWI sequences were absolutely heartbreaking (I've never before felt so vividly what it might have been like for those poor fuckers in those trenches). Unfortunately, the war scenes were done so well that Audrey Tatou's quest seemed comparatively comfortable and trivial, a flaw which becomes a major problem because it represents the bulk of the film (and the quest as the film's propelling narrative device is not helped by the fact that the title pretty much destroys any suspense over how the quest will end).

Still, it's a film I'd recommend seeing (preferably on a big screen). And there are so many unexpected visual details that it's probably worth seeing a few times to fully appreciate.

No oatmills. But I give it 4 red woolly mittens out of a possible 5 German folksongs.

I'd need to see more of her too. Does she do any nude scenes?

i've really been wanting to see this. rewatched amelie lately, saw l'auberge espagnole, and audrey is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
