I was watching the Fox Soccer Channel this weekend and they were showing standings from various leagues. They came 'round to Scotland and I was beyond amused to find a third division club called Peterhead. Please tell me more about this, especially where I can get some garb with the name on it. I'm a sucker for this stuff. Also, what's the origin of the name? Is it geographic?

BTW, I've already visited the club site and I'm not laying out $50+ for a jersey.

Oddly enough I don't actually know the origins of every place name in Scotland but I'll deduce, Holmes style, for your benefit.

Peterhead is on the coast (in fact it's a major fishing port) so I imagine the Head bit comes from headland. It's quite common for coastal towns to have names ending in Head. Just off the top of my head (ha!) I can think of Gateshead and Birkenhead although they are both in England. In fact the name Peterhead seems very Anglo to me, so you'd probably find it's was either called something else until relatively recently or it's a 'new' town (ie built in the last couple of hundred years).

As for getting merchandise, look around the net for unofficial supporters clubs, they might have t-shirts or something.

I figured as much about the placename. More interested in the tee. Kinda like the -mouth thing. Plymouth, Dartmouth, Portsmouth, Pottymouth.
