You should have red-eyed to Chicago and taken the first connection to LaGuardia or Newark. Ground transportation from JFK to downtown sucks to no end. That airport is almost as inconvenient to downtown as White Plains.

I was at the mercy of my friend who's going with me... she bought both tickets and scored a free one, so we're splitting the cost of one ticket. I couldn't turn that down. You wouldn't believe how cheap this trip (at least the transportation part) is going to be... ~$250 roundtrip flight, plus $188 for 3 nights in the hotel. The tickets to the show were the most expensive thing <cough>$237</cough>.

- on the way into work this a.m., I passed an auto repair shop that is known for putting up witticisms or worldly advice on their sign, and are pretty good about changing it often. Today's advice? "Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future."

- Also on the way to work, on the freeway, I saw a hitchhiker with a sign saying "Eugen" on it. One can only assume he really meant Eugene, but what if there were a Eugen, OR? What if someone picked him up and took him to an entirely different part of the state? Even when hitchhiking, literacy seems to be very important.

- My eyes are blue today (they change color based on what I'm wearing). It reminds me of that New Order song "Temptation."

- I've always wondered if my car stereo sounds as loud outside the car as it does inside. A co-worker was outside smoking when I drove up and said to me "I'm glad I'm not the only one who pulls into the parking lot with my music blasting." So there ya have it.

- Last night, I was out jogging with a girlfriend, and a cute cyclist passed us. Apparently he looked not once, but twice (I didn't see this, my girlfriend told me). Whenever I think of people doing that, I always imagine that sound effect that old WB cartoons add when their characters do such things.

A Jiffy Lube type place in LA did this when I lived there. My favorite was "Smiling is the second best thing you can do with your mouth".

D, I need tips on snagging a gay boyfriend. I think I'm close, but I only talk to him at the bar. It should be easy as he only lives five houses down from me, but I haven't been able to work my way into his place yet. He drools over HePoet, so I should have a good in.

Tips? hmmm, they usually aren't hard to snag. Dress well. Be bitchy. Hold your liquor. Be fabulous. Works like a charm every time! ;)

Apparently, I am far more tentative with the gay boys than with the straight ones.

this should have been a lovely ending to an otherwise trite and insipid thread.

ayah, you can't kill me. :P

Quote:
I'm giving you the news
Your domination's through
You gave the best you've got
Now I'm out on top

If you're in any doubt
Listen to me
I've got a right to say
If you know what it's all about
Who do you think you are?

Don't want to be your enemy
If I'm not the one you want me to be
And I've got to do things the way that I do

Always trying to control me
Who do you think you are?

Our time on earth is running through
(This is not a question of my pride)
Sometimes I think it's a game to you
(Ever wonder how I feel inside?)
And sometimes I play along
But man I've got a mind!

You've got to live with yourself
For the rest of you life
Do you understand?
Everybody asks themselves the question
Who do you think you are?

Why do you feel ashamed
When you can't explain the things I say
To other people

It's just occurred to me
A possibility
The thought that you might really want to be me?

- bluejayway's thread was the most interesting thing I've read on this board in a while (and I *think* but am not certain, we've covered all that before)

- seeing Todd Hannigan tonight (thanks Stu)-- I'm woefully undernourished when it comes to seeing live music.

- started watching "Fast Food Nation" last night. I don't know why I thought it would be kinda humorous (yes, I read the book, so I know the seriousness of subject matter), but so far, not so much. Interesting take on the book though.

Driving in this a.m., I was listening to the radio and CSN's "Teach Your Children" came on. I almost changed the station, as I didn't think that I needed to hear that sappy tune one more time, but for some reason I left it on.

Teach your children well
Their private hell
Will surely go by
And feed
Them all your dreams...

Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you
You would cry
So just look at them and sigh

And know they love you...

Teach your parents well
Their parents' hell
Will slowly go by
And feed
Them all your dreams...

Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you
You would cry
So just look at them and sigh

And know they love you...

I literally broke down in tears.
I got it.
I KNOW my parents and I know that they know me, and have ALWAYS known me, because they used to be me, much as I used to be my children.

I get it.

There are still tears in my eyes, as I am writing this.
But I wanted to share.

And thanks for being my friends and my online shrink.

- while perusing mags this weekend at the airport, saw that Sarah Jessica Parker is launching her own line of clothing. Cute stuff, and super cheap. Closest location to me? Everett, WA. :nono:

D, I just looked this up and it looks like there are stores in Olympia and Auburn.....still at least a couple of hour drive for you from PDX, but about 2 hours closer and 1 hour closer to you respectively.....and you could easily stop by one on your way up here for Bumbershoot :)
