Bloor is right. In my many transitions these last 5 years, EVERY U-Haul experience has been miserable, and the 2 Penske rentals have been fabulous, inlcuding this move out here. I have examples, but will spare you.

Good to know. Funnily enough, they are apparently cheaper, and you get the truck for 5 days no matter what, which helps with my timeline. I could get it tmrw and still not have to be back til Tuesday. Which it appears I may do.

now it looks like we're going this again. We've gone from flying and shipping everything to driving and shipping our crap, to driving our crap in a truck and shipping our car. Needless to say, this royally fucking blows.

Why can't you drive your crap in a truck AND tow your car or have one of you drive the car?

truthfully, I'm too lazy to read what everyone else has written here, but Cotton... you have a job waiting for you in LA, right? Any chance you could get them to pay for the move? Or is it too late to negotiate that?

When I moved out west, we had all our stuff (and my car) shipped via Bekins truck, and we drove ourselves and the dogs out. My husband's work paid for the move.

I'm truly sorry man. I'd rather fork myself in the eyeball than pack up a house full of shit again and truck it across the country. Chin up.

Well, we can't tow the car because my wife isn't going to be able to drive that and I'm refusing to drive the entire way, even though I'll drive most of it. Can't drive the car because wife is certain that it won't make it and even if it does, will be all but destroyed by the time we get out there.

no, there's no way that my nonprofit, low-paying job is going to offer to move me, however much I plead. This moving sucks, and I'm reasonably certain that after this I will never want to move again. so there's that.

On the plus side, Finch Platte just totally hooked my shit up with a bunch of new music which will soundtrack the drive. AWESOME.

So then realistically, it will wind up being you driving the whole way, towing the car.

Well, then take an extra day or something, and drive less each day, maybe. I.E., do it on your terms, whatever those may be. Or insist on some sorta "compensation" if you catch my drift. Ass, gas, grass, etc.

Looks like you're going to have to stop refusing to drive the whole way. Sucks.

If you're sure your car won't make it, why ship it? Just sell it.

This would be ideal, but we have to stay here until the wife's pension at her current job kicks in, but leave early enough so I can be at work by the 21st. Leaves us about 5 days if we're lucky. Might take an extra day though to sleep when we get out there depending on how many stops we make on the way out.

I meant my wife won't drive the moving truck with the car on the back. So yeah, she's gonna learn real quick to drive the truck by itself.

I'm pretty much positive that the car will make it, but she bought it (I'm selling mine this weekend) and she's the one who plans on using it when we get out there. Also, driving 3,000 miles in 5 days is different than using it every other day to run errands and the like.

I know that's what you meant. Which means that if she's not going to drive the truck towing the car, you're going to have to do it. If that's the cheapest option, that is.

I can't imagine driving from PA to CA. This trip's either going to strengthen the hell out of your marriage or it's going to cause one of you to bury the other in a desert along the way.
