it's completely different from luomo. very clicky and ambient.

the new matt dear is also different from his previous work, but i like the direction he went with this album - more melodic and friendly to the non-minimal techno fans.

definitely peep that new swayzak if you get a chance. i posted a new track on atad.

ah, the clickiness of techno these days is why ive been listening to house alot more

ill check out that matthew dear album and that swayzak tune on atad tho

I think Jason Isbell's solo album, Sirens Of The Ditch, is out today. He's been known to write a good tune now and then.

Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators: Keep Reachin' Up

If you like the Amy Winehouse style soul revival at all, check this out. Released from Finland in 2006, but just about to get released in the US (don't know about your part of the world) in another week. More Stax style retro soul with a bit more powerful of a voice. Also, if you can come across the 7" Nicole Willis vs the Dynamics where this gets mixed with some reggae style beats, grab it.

this has been out here for awhile. it was pretty difficult to find in stores for a few months, but now i've seen it around a lot. about half of it is dynamite - definitely recommended. and i don't think it sounds much like anything on stax, but that could be debated.

Speaking of which, there was a sad piece in the Chronicle about him here.

This has been treating me very nicely the last month or so. I tend to play it and the Panda Bear record at the same time for some reason. not that they sound a like really...

arthur & yu have some songs on their myspace page if you're curious to hear what they sound like. http://www.myspace.com/arthurandyu

p.s. i'm also enjoying the gui boratto record. I'd recommend that to those of you looking for something more electronic.

I don't recall if you dig Ted Leo or not, but if so...this album sounds like Ted Leo but with greater rock content. It was produced by Rob Younger.

BTW, if you like Interpol get anything else Starky has done. Their guitar player left after this record and took all the rock with him.

This Kaman Leung disc has been killing me for a few weeks. Even if splates doesn't dig it, Dalen certainly will:

Image
Quote:
"Lacrimal" is Kaman's debut album and through its 9 flawless tracks you start to realise that the material in front of you is nothing short of groundbreaking - and once you factor into the equation the fact that the tracks here are all 4 or 5 years old you start to wonder just how ahead of his time this producer has been. Opening track "Inquietude" sets the agenda - with the benefit of hindsight you could describe it as a blend of dubstep's low-end templates with the shimmering echoes of dub Melodica, hardcore hoover sweeps and bass drops that are hard to fathom in one sitting - who was making this sort of thing back in 2002? Or in 2007 for that matter? Shockingly good stuff. Or take third track in "Stretchmarks" - a track that comes to life with an atmospheric sleepy hip hop shuffle - who could anticipate that a minute into it the bass would drop so low and so heavy that it turns into something that sounds like Burial, DJ/Rupture and El-P having a soundclash deep into the night in some abandoned bunker 50 feet underground? The bottom line is that Kaman Leung is a producer who casts his net wide over a number of seemingly disparate disciplines, stuffs them into his boxes and squeezes out a hybrid sound that is so enamoured with the rumbling, padded wobble of the bottom end that regardless of the tempo or template in use it comes over as a new kind of urban variation - a sort of proto dubstep fusion that still sounds like nothing else to these ears.

The new Fog album is also so so so highly recommended.

this sounds good - i listened to a couple of songs

judging from those it sounds a lot more hip-hop than that review makes it out to be, in the broader sense of the word anyway - its something i could see DJ Krush, DJ Shadow or one of those dudes having a hand in if any of them were still, you know, good.

ill def check it out
