I completely agree.

I also agree with those who consider nU pr0n and Shins disappointing.

Half of that Shins album is amazingly good, and the other half is ok, making it a front-runner for 2007 at this point. NuPrn's took what could've been a good album and then infected it with the Limpwrist.

There's a handful of good, economical tunes and I like the live recording/flubs-and-all approach, but outstanding? I'll go with "improved" for now...

Improved doesn't work either. Its not nearly as good as Fastman Raiderman IMO. I like it when i listen to it, but never feel the urge to do so.

Yeah, that's probably more it, just lacking a catch-all adjective or something. I do like it when it pops on, but like now, I'm not chompin' at the bit here to rock some FB.

Fastman Raiderman was a snorefest. I could listen to Bluefinger all day long. It is definately outstanding.

Sometimes I get concerned about you, Dalen. Like now. Though I do/did hate the Liars disc.

I've said this before, but if you seriously can't find more than ten or so albums in a year (more specifically, this year) that really kick your ass, then Jesus... you're actively avoiding good music.

exactly, which is why this list is so confusing to me.

what on this list am i missing that's so brilliant? i've heard them all.

whatever dude. your list has interpol. i don't think anything more needs to be said

weird, I thought you were an early adopter of this record being good. In fact, I think I nearly bought this album based on yr views (or my imaginary conception of your thoughts) since I think our tastes sometimes run parallel.

My list, in no order (BOLD is top 20 contender):

Wilco-SBS
Earth-Hibernaculum
Jozef van Wissem-Stations of the Cross
Bad Liquor Pond-The Year of the Clam
Desensitized Robots-Space ep
Mao II-Klee
Son Volt-The Search
Bjork-Volta
Upsilon Acrux-Galapagos Momentum
John Morton-Solo Traveler
Dub Trio-Cool Out and Coexist
Element Kuuda-Le Village
(((Powerhouse Sound)))-Oslo/Chicago: Breaks
Lights Out Asia-Tanks and Recognizers
Missing Ensemble-Hidden Doors
radicalfashion-Odori
Kammerflimmer Kollektief-Jinx
Jakob-Solace
Apparat-Walls
Sir Richard Bishop-While My Guitar Violently Bleeds
Yndi Halda-Enjoy Eternal Bliss
Electrelane-No Shouts No Calls
New Ruins-The Sound They Make

I know I'm forgetting tons...

I actually love 'em both. FMRM was a much better execution of what FB tried to do (but failed miserably) on Honeycomb. And Bluefinger is one of the most Pixiesish albums he's done since going solo. Not sure which I prefer, but both are among his top 3-4.

Both of them are: Eye in the Pines and Gettin' Gone. Dig that new Magik Markers disc, too, if you like the MV & EE stuff.

Well, they didn't have it, but they did have the Justice album, which is fucking kicking my ass -- instant top 10 material.

Anyone heard the Rabbit in the Moon album? It appears to be a 2007 release.

i haven't got eye in the pines. i was referring to gettin' gone. he's really turned into neil young in that record. and the magik markers record is pretty rad too, much better than i trust my guitar, etc.

I don't remember ever speaking highly of it, but maybe it made a good initial impression on me. It was also one of the first 2007 albums I bought so I might have misleadingly put it in my top 5 when I only had 5 albums. There are a few good songs on it and a few real stinkers, but it's mostly pretty meh.

I'm sure I've spoken highly of the cover art a few times. One of the coolest CD packages I've seen, and it's the only reason I'm keeping it.

really? I heard all this amazing things about it and then when i finally saw it in real life and had a look it was very underwhelming.

It's just normal cover art except it's got holes in it...or am i missing something?

Wilco
Son Volt

Well, first of all, the guy who drew it is this sorta well-known comic illustrator, Craig Thompson. Second, you kinda have to open it up and and play around with it to see how cool it is.

I'm just personally a fan of that kind of artwork and how he designed the thing to fit together a bunch of different ways.

Wasn't a flipbook included with their first album. They seem to be into the visuals as well as the music.

The hipinion thread has been a great source for me over the past couple of months, though I find wonderful stuff all over the place.

I honestly don't mean any offense, but it sort of bums me out when the best some people can muster is falling hard for a new Arcade Fire/Shins/Modest Mouse/etc album. There are about a trillion other things out there and you're not interested in hearing any of it? Sad panda.

i've said this time and time again, but honestly, many people don't have the time or resources to search out new music, so they're happy with what they do find.

fair enough, yeah.
