On the day they concede, Edwards' wife is diagnosed with cancer. What a kick in the nuts.

This is the saddest thing I've ever heard. My prayers go out to the Edwards family.

I'm willing to bet they knew about this for a while, but kept the news secret for fear of losing votes.

yeah, i got the feeling something was up as well. why would it come out all of a sudden. strange.

they did say on CNN that she just discovered the lump on the campaign trail last week, so it could have just been diagnosed now.

Man oh man. I found this out when we got home earlier.

And I had just finished reading the greatest interview with her in a magazine a couple hours previous.

She came across so genuine, warm and intelligent. After reading it I almost wished it was Edwards who had run so SHE could be the First Lady.

This makes me super sad now. Damnit.

That's pretty shitty, but, my Mom got through it and she can too. More women are beating it each and every day.

I used the fight icon because that's what it is and what you need to do to take it on.

I've liked her ever since I became an Edwards supporter last year - she's really good people. This is terrible news.

Hopefully they caught it early enough.

We just had a "wear pink" day in the UK for breast cancer awareness last Friday. This news is frighteningly bizarre.
