motorcycle stores do NOT like it when you bring in tires that you bought on the internets and ask them to install them. They want you to pay them too much for the tires.

One shop tacks on $40 if you bring your own, making the install cost $155. The other one I called finally said he'd do it, but only for $200. This on top of tires that, if I do order them online, will "only" cost $250. But at a store, those things cost $330. That's a big difference.

Why won't people let you pay them to do things?
I never had that problem with car stereos. The trick is to talk directly to the person doing the installing, and paying in cash.

that won't work here. This is a much bigger deal to these guys, from what I'm discovering.

I'm just gonna do it myself. I know a guy who knows a guy with a Snap-On wheel balancer.

Well, when the guys installed my stereo, I still dropped it off and picked it up at Best Buy/Circuit City/whatever. I'm pretty sure they used their "day" work facilities, they just stayed after hours a little bit, earned some mad money, y'know?

yeah. I had a best buy dude talk me into installing a sub in my car myself once. "You don't wanna pay us to do it. it's easy. Here's the crimp connectors, just take 'em."

Guys I talked to today at the 2 shops WERE the dude who puts the tires on. Fuckallmighty it's a lotta money.

What about CostCo? You gotta be a member, but they should have a straight fee structure.

Read about that -- supposedly doesn't even taste like Coke, just plain ol' fried dough. If I'm gonna have fried dough, let it s be funnel cakes.

it would be to me. but then seattle's gotta be a big stadium, because the tickets to the baltimore game start at $140 or so. Thinking of going to the Dolphins game instead in December.

Miami in December? Sounds like a plan.

i hate the city of miami as well, but i'm telling you there are a lot worse places to be then South Beach in December. you can have the hotels there arrange shuttles (with beer) to and from dolphin stadium as well. no need to stay in miami proper or near the stadium.

got this in an email from a friend, and it made me chuckle:

Quote:
Saw Smashing Pumpkins @ SDSU Amphitheatre the other night. I had no idea Billy Corgan was so tall. He was a little creepy looking. Band was wearing all white and he was wearing some baseball getup – all white, blue stirrups, white shoes. With the lighting (and probably makeup) he looked like Cancer-Boy. Or Powder. Had to keep reminding myself what his face looked like. Show was good though. But my god, the whores. Don’t know about you, but I don’t recall wearing 4” heels and 3” dresses to college. I seem to recall lots of sweats and jeans.

walking off my hospital unit and seeing a woman pushing her IV pole slowly down the hall last week...

me (cheerfully): Hi! Good morning! How are you doing?

cancer-stricken lady: Are you a Christian?

me: um, no. Sorry.

lady: Oh...I was hoping you'd say a prayer for that little girl Madeline

me: (walks past lady, doesn't know how to respond to that)

in the last half hour:

- I ate a leftover slice of za
- I made plans to go see Josh Rouse next Tuesday
- got emails from two different friends inviting me to do stuff this weekend (and my weekend is actually chock full of activities already)
- listened to miceelf's mix (which is very good actually, I think it might come in handy when the weather really goes south here)
