yeah i don't know what time ok is but you probably won't be able to swing both, unless if they have openers and are on later.

the rparis74 east coast trip has officially commenced.

Day 1 observations:
1. Switching wedding ring to right hand would be horribly inappropriate
2. The Portland airport has never been this dead. I just walked right up to the check in counter, then walked right through security. I should travel on Thursday all the time. There isn't some terrorist warning is there?
3. Airport burritos can sometimes be a tad bland - especially when all they contain is black beans, a half gram of cheese, and about 18 layers of tortilla.
4. Supposedly the plane is going to be half full. If some jag off has a ticket right next to me and won't move to an open row, I am just going to pull it out and start waiving it around. If that doesn't work I will start telling him/her stories about the best places in Oregon to hide bodies and the proper use of chloroform. If it's a hot chick I will re-visit #1 above and start telling her about my glamorous career as an entertainment attorney, traveling to LA to visit my clients.

More observations once I reach LA for my layover. Yes, I originally had a direct flight but Delta in their infinite wisdom switched me over to this bullshit. Hey, its only 1500 miles out of the way. No big whoop.

ok. after a red eye I am in New York. Obnering live from a coffee shop near Union Square Park. No hotel check in until 2 or so.

Day 2 observations thus far:
1. It is humid as fuck up in this biatch. Seriously.
2. I really wish I could sleep on planes, but I simply can't. The lady next to me was snoring so loud it was overwhelming my ipod. I must look like absolute hell. Maybe 30 minutes sleep.
3. There are some hot girls here. Not that I even notice.
4. Cab driver had some good stories about St. Petersburg. I'd say around 80% of the cabbies I get are Russian. He told me he had dropped out of law school cuz he couldnt both drive a cab and go to law school at the same time. Sounds probable.

And all strippers are "just working their way through college" too.

Oh and it's hotter than fuck up in Boston this last day or two. 94ish yesterday and muggy as hell. I was nauseous when I got off the bike last night from coming home - hot as shit.

No kidding. I curled my hair this morning and it instantly fell. I'm wicked pissed.

I was at Pearl Street in Northampton last night, though, and it wasn't too hot in the club, which made me happy. Last time I was there I was melting.

I slept on top of the bedding last night, and woke up with a dehydration headache.

yeah it's been really hot and humid around here for like 2 days now. that nights have been beautiful but around like 2pm it's pretty unbearable. good choice for coffee/people watching in union square, one of my favorite places to just go and sit. do yourself a favor and get a serious deli sandwich

a passage from Augie March I read today.

"Afterward I sometimes went alone; she didn't see why I should want to. Nor did she see what I strayed into town for in the morning, or why I took pleasure in sitting in the still green bake of the Civil War courthouse square after my thick breakfast of griddle cakes and eggs and coffee. But I did, and warmed my belly and shins while the little locust trolley clinked and crept to the harbor and over the trestles of the bog-spanning bridge where the green beasts and bulrush-rocking birds kept up their hot, small-time uproar. I brought along a book, but there was too much brown stain on the pages from the sun. The benches were white iron, roomy enough for three or four old gaffers to snooze on in the swamp-tasting sweet warmth that made the redwing blackbirds fierce and quick, and the flowers frill, but other living things slow and lazy-blooded. I soaked in the heavy nourishing air and this befriending atmosphere like rich life-cake, the kind that encourages love and brings on a mild pain of emotions. A state that lets you rest in your own specific gravity, and where you are not a subject matter but sit in your own nature, tasting original tastes as good as the first man, and are outside of the busy human tamper, left free even of your own habits. Which only lie on you illusory in the sunshine, in the usual relation of your feet or fingers or the knot of your shoestring and are without power. No more than the comb or shadow of your hair has power on your brain."

tomorrow: The Met and a concert.

rode the subway up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Checked that out for several hours - very large. Highlights is the Egyptian stuff. Still need to make it to MOMA/Guggenheim and PS 1. walked all the way back through the park and then down 5th Avenue. One thing has always perplexed me about tourists - why go shopping when you are on vacation. Especially at places like Gap or Abercrombie - doesn't every American town have these? Do you really want to haul all that shit back with you? Very good people watching from the steps of St. Patrick's, though.
