NOG DEYG RAM IN TEH BELIEVGERB!!

Who gets anything from advertising when you have blogs?

I have no fucking idea what you're talking about. This should've died off with the LOLcats.

if they run the ad in Maxim it should read "Your dad bought non-airbrushed 70s porn, you puss"

Cotton, I would think you know enough about me at this point to understand that when I write like that, it has NOTHING to do with LOLcats.

What I meant was your comment was typical board style overreaction and that while I have no idea if those are from Maxim (saw em in GQ) I bet that if they were in The Believer or whatever that Eggars zine is, you'd be funneling CC and telling us all about your cool booze fueled LA Adventures

I'll get it written into a comic book and you can both drink it, Jon.

I don't read either of those magazines and I haven't picked up an Eggers book since I fell asleep halfway through his second one. Dave, I would think you know enough about me at this point to understand that I'm neither pretentious nor an intellectual. At best I'm a wiseass and a drunk with the mind of a smarter-than-average child. I know you hate things that are hip and reverent and quirky, and we all think your faux retard-speak is hilarious, but the fact is I'm right there with you on plenty of that stuff. You like what you like. Just like Jon likes horror movies, Dale likes porn and I like casual self-destruction. But it's hardly something that defines anyone, just like politics and your interest in DBT don't define you.

the only thing I've ever drank due to outside media influence is High Life because of Do The Right Thing in high school. and I still drink it. If Ossie Davis counts as advertising, then ad me up.

Maybe advertising doesn't work on you, but in general advertising works, for booze, for anything. Do you really think so much of the entertainment industry would be supported by advertising if this were not the case?

I'd actually say it especially works with booze. I can't count the number of times some schmuck just had to have his whiskey and coke made with some fancy call liquor when I go to buy a round, despite the fact that I go to the bar and give him rail whiskey, which he goes on to sip while telling me how smooth and delicious his upscale brand of choice tastes.

Not saying there is not a difference in quality booze, mind you. Just saying your average kid mixing the hell outta his drink with soda or whatever is most likely falling victim to advertising rather than to their discerning palette.

Same image management crap factors into most product purchases, and very, very few people are totally immune. Hats off to you if you're one of the special few.

This is a great, great campaign.
It has a clear position, stated clearly and entertainingly to a very specific target. THere is a very specific image that they are projecting — your dad was cool, and this was what he drank when he was cool — and I wouldn't be surprised to see Canadian Club sales take a little jump.
I love everything about it and, if there is any justice, it will win some sort of award at the Cleos this year. Certainly One Book quality.

this is true

with all the recent premium vodkas its funny to see people waster their money mixing it

beyond a certain level of vodka say around stolichnaya, you are throwing money away unless you drink it on the rocks or with just a bit of lime or something

the same thing applies with whiskys too, if your mixing it go for jw red or something

if im having mixer, gimme whatever the fuck is on the speed rail

I refuse to drink a vodka martini unless it's Ketel One or Grey Goose. To my tastes it's far superior.

I'm not really a liquor snob and I probably drink Sky or Absolut more than any vodka but even if you mix it with something, shit is shit. A screwdriver made with better vodka will still be better than one made with shit.

http://abcnews.go.com/2020/Story?id=3201973 Wrote:
The Taste Test

Which brings us back to our little experiment. Can people really tell the difference in taste between the expensive and cheaper vodkas? Our blind vodka taste tests were conducted by Eben Klemm, the director of cocktail development for B.R. Guest, a chain of upscale restaurants.

Klemm instructed the testers to "sniff through them first to sort of calibrate your nose a little bit."

The taste test included five super-premium vodkas (Ketel One, Belvedere, Hangar One, Stoli Elit and Grey Goose) and one economy brand (Smirnoff).

Most of the testers thought they would be able to recognize their favorite brands, which didn't surprise Klemm. "Everyone's a snob about their brands," he said. "I mean, they've built their whole nightlife identity on which brands they are -- whether they're a 'Belvedere man' or a 'Grey Goose woman.'"

The first test involved tasting the vodkas "neat," which means straight and at room temperature.

Kay thought vodka No. 1 tasted "very spicy. It burns the tongue." Gurock said vodka No. 2 "was very light, it went down beautifully." Gliksman thought vodka No. 3 "has a really nice aroma." And Glenn McGinness said, "I'm guessing that five is the Grey Goose."

After a half hour of sniffing and sipping, five of the six testers agreed on one thing: They all hated vodka No. 1.

Freeland described it as "kind of thick and not smooth at all. Something I would never ever buy." Kay called it her "least favorite one, for sure."

The Surprising Results

Finally, the moment of truth. Klemm revealed that vodka No. 1 -- the group's least favorite -- was Grey Goose. Everyone was flabbergasted.

...

It turns out that the testers had a tough time distinguishing between cosmos made with the $62 Stoli Elit and cosmos made with the $13 Smirnoff.

Speaking of vodka, an old Russian woman I used to see often told me about drinking Vodka when she was still in Russia. She said only the wealthy could afford real vodka in her day, everybody else made a little concoction of their own, which it turns out is pretty tasty. You take a cup of grain alcohol (Everclear or the like) and mix it with a couple cups of water (more or less depending how strong you want it), drop in a couple drops of glycerin to make it smooth, and shave some peel of your preferred citrus fruit into the bottle...add a spoonful of sugar if you like. Shake the whole thing up and put in in the freezer for about a month. Then, sip as desired.
