Friday Night in San Francisco
Al di Meola/John McLaughlin/Paco de Lucía

from allmusic: Loose and spontaneous, this (mainly) live album is a meeting of three of the greatest guitarists in the world for an acoustic summit the likes of which the guitar-playing community rarely sees....

Actually, I will be upping it soon.. PM if interested.

BLACK FLAG: My War & Slip It In

Because sometimes when I wake up in the morning I wanna make my ears bleed. Lots of people were done with this band after Damaged, and I am particularly fond of the early singles myself. But, this mid period stuff and what followed hits the spot when I'm in the mood. Nothing else out there quite mixes the power and violence with the guitar freak out noise that comes together on some of these tracks. They can both fit on a single disc too, and the Pettibon album covers are a special bonus.

I like those better than Damaged too. Damaged was always the one "punk classic" that I couldn't get into.

I wanna say I do like Damaged a lot. I just think their later stuff gets unfairly slogged and I enjoy both eras. Loose Nut kicks ass too.

Am I the only "Everything Went Black" fan 'round here? Plus, I'll throw in my 50 cents for Damaged...

As for myself, so far today:

Fiends: We've Come for Your Beer

Stupid mid 80s punk rock. Silly and fun. Gotta love a band that makes songs like Die Bob Die about Bob Hope and No More Drugs, not about quitting but running out.

This is really, really great. Amazing even. I always found the backstory great. 3 guitarists who had never played together--get together and play to a so-so but enthusiastic crowd. The night was electrifying, and churned out one hell of a performance. The next night, by word of mouth, the event was packed, and performance was just so-so. The recording comes from night 1, and perhaps eclipses anything all of those musicians had done up to that point.

Basically, this cover makes me want to listen to the record. I need to get this sometime. I've read really good things about it.

Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago (Second listen, not blown away but it has some serious hooks for such a low-key record)
