A pretty great release from XTC in the guise of a 60's psychadelic band. Are there any other bands that you can think of that have actually created another persona for themselves to release something totally different and separate from their usual catalog?

I'm not talking about turning themselves into an existing band to play covers (a la Phish Halloween shows). And... LEAVE GARTH BROOKS OUT OF IT!!!!!!

Seaweed had a great alter-ego band called The Fuckers. They only released one single, but it was great.

Green Day is doing one right now and going out on tour with them....Can't think of the name off the top of my head...

Twisted Sister sometimes plays under the name Bent Brother, which is their non-makeup version of the band....

Robin Proper-Sheppard (formerly of The God Machine) has recorded primarily under the name Sophia but did record under the band name The May Queens a few years ago which was almost a full circle going back to TGM sound.

The Knitters were pretty much X.
The Passengers were pretty much U2.
Bonnie "Prince" Billy = Will Oldham and he was pretty much Palace, Palace Music, Palace Brothers, and Palace Songs.
There's not really much difference (member-wise) between Jason Molina solo, Songs: Ohia, and Magnolia Electric Co.

Slobberbone and The Drams are for all intents and purposes the same band.

Would Mark Kozelek, Red House Painters, and Sun Kil Moon fit this bill?
