i don't think they're better than the Heat, Pistons, or maybe the Pacers, but the Celts are a legit contender for the East this season. not sure how they'll fare in the playoffs, but Celtic fever is actually back in Boston and that's a good time...

Simmons has a great Page 2 article on Toine's return and the complex emotions Boston fans have about the guy...

I just wanted to add that all my positive responses to this thread last week have now come back to reality.

I was kind of on a high after all the ink that Josh Smith was getting and then the flurry of trades came which lured me into thinking we may be on the right track.

So I actually watched a Hawks game and WE ARE FUCKING TERRIBLE. I don't know who you could bring in to fix this. Josh Smith is terrible. He can dunk and that's it. No basic basketball skills, no jump shot.

A truly dark period for a Hawks fan and there have been many.

The only difference is, players still wanna play for the Knicks. Nobody wants to play for the Hawks.

players want to play for teams that can clear up money, which the knicks cannot, and teams that can win, again removing the knicks from consideration. at least the hawks don't have their assets tied up in tim thomas and alan houston.

the celts have payton back now. kph made a post earlier that they've been fun to watch these past few days, and that's true, but i still don't like the way that team is designed or the way that it's run, so i'm hoping meltdown and rebuilding.

yeah that game against the lakers was pretty good. i'm even thinking about going to a game.

If Pierce, Payton, and Walker can play together, they could actually win the East.

I'm kinda looking forward to the Eastern Conference playoffs this year; there are some pretty good storylines.

Unfortunately, noe involve the Hawks except until they do the ping-pong balls thing.

*now wearing Rasheed Wallace Hawks jersey*

I'd be very excited about the Celtics if I was in Boston right now.

And I actually believed the Knicks were going to make some noise this year.

SLAM recently asked if the Hawks were currently able to beat Georgia Tech, and I think the trade might've given them the capabilities to do just that.
