Saddle Creek has announced the signing of Sebastien Grainger, the former singer/drummer of acclaimed Canadian duo, Death From Above 1979.

To coincide with the signing, the label has released a new iTunes-exclusive digital EP, American Names which can be found here for sampling or purchase. You can also stream the title track from the EP --> http://www.saddle-creek.com/americannames/

The label is promising that a full length will follow this October.

I received the label email on friday, but didn't think anyone would be interested by this.

I can't wait for him to play a gig here in Nebraska.

I love(d) Death from Above 1979. If anybody gets hold of this and wants to PM a link. Well, you know, that would be nice.

This just reminded me that I forgot Saddle Creek was a label.

sounds nothing like death from above 1979, nor does it sound like the couple of songs he put out right after they split up. i'd still probably buy it though.

The dude was a total asshole when I saw DFA in 2003 or so. I sort of hurt my ability to listen to his work objectively, but I should still give this a listen.

They should be considered to be barely alive at this point. Oberst left for Merge and The Faint started their own label. Cursive rarely plays or records much, so they don't have much for talent and sales right now.

I don't think you can build a label around either, especially a label located in Omaha that has relied on local favoritism and has incestuous tendencies.
