I just listened to it at work, but it was pretty spotty listening. Still sounded great when I could concentrate and not pause a song five times.

There are few bands whose 6+ minute songs I can stand on a consistent basis, but Okkervil River is one of them.

I listened to this on the train today...I like it a lot...I can see why he left some of these off The Stage Names though, they just wouldn't have fit.

I'm also glad he didn't make it a double album.

I like it quite a bit.
I can't remember who else it has reminded of so far, but John Cale stands out as a possibility.

I like it, but Im not exactly blown away...yet.

i wonder if they have another Black Sheep Boy in them. That record, with appendix, is probably my favorite of the last ten years.

I'm really enjoying this, but only 40 minutes long? I'm not used to albums that are over so quickly.

"Lost Coastlines" didn't work too well for me (on one listen) but I like this. 3 of the songs didn't download properly, though. Gotta try to fix that somehow.

I haven't really liked their stuff in the past, but Rad's "low register" comment and e-stone's recommendation has piqued my interest.

they're a pretty consistent band stu, so if you didn't really like 'em before, this probably won't change your mind. but def. give it a shot....

Well, 3 songs in and I like it a lot. Great guitar sounds, these two songs click along at a good pace (first song is just an intro), and I love the old wurlitzer organ sounds.

Just getting around to listening to this- and I think I'm liking it better than Stage Names.

I really haven't enjoyed their other records, but this one, I'm really digging.

Is it my imagination, or does Jens Lekman make an appearance on "Lost Coastlines?" 'Cause if it ain't him, it's a helluva good impression.

Dear Bob, this is for you:

I've been spinning this one a lot lately, but it just doesn't seem to have the staying power of The Stage Names.

I'm really liking "Lost Coastlines," but the rest has yet to stick, save for a few others. I think this will end up getting about as many spins as the Stage Names, which didn't hold up as well as Black Sheep Boy.

The Stand Ins cover project

Hey everyone,
To celebrate the upcoming release of The Stand Ins, we've asked some of our favorite songwriters and performers to record cover versions of each song on the album. The first song, "Lost Coastlines," is a duet between our own Will Sheff and A.C. Newman of the The New Pornographers and is currently streaming on the Okkervil River YouTube channel. We'll release a new song every few days until album release on Sept 9th.

That was fucking atrocious.

Nice to see that Carl Newman got beardy enough to be invited to all those Black Mountain and Ladyhawke parties.
