I'm a pushover for Kooper. His "comeback" album from a couple of years ago, Black Coffee, is damned good. Damned good. Damned good.

Had I heard it in 2005, it would have made my Top 20 I think. Apparently he has a new one out this year, so I'll have my ears to the ground.

Right now, I'm just finishing billy's Betty Davis mix. I accidentally moved the folder into another so it got lost for awhile, which was too bad. This is fucking dynamite shit and legitimately scary music. I can envision popping the light bulb off my desk lamp, slapping in a red light and luring some undergrads in here with beer and pot and then turning them out. Fuck, I can listen to her squall all day long, especially on (I think) 'Game is My Middle Name' where she sounds like she's getting choked out. Just awesome.

Yeah, apparently Miles Davis was doing a lot of that to Betty back in the day.

I've managed to listen to a few more.

Kathleen Edwards - dis ig berry goog rogneeb. tanks alogg.

Jerry Jerry - I was expecting company while listening to this and cleaning up the house. I guess its a good sign that i was terribly frightened that the company would arrive before this ended. Still not sure how much i'd really listen to ol Jerry Jerry though.

John Hiatt - I was scared off JH by some emusic free dl's that probably were throwaway albums by him. I like the one album I picked up by him recently and this is pretty good too. Not good enough that I'm going to rush out to buy more, but still good.

Pagliaro - I really liked the first four songs which appear to be all from the same album. The mix was hit or miss thereafter.

Roy Wood - I was cleaning the house while this was playing and not always near the stereo. I expected to like this more than I did because i do enjoy some of the Move and ELO. I'm not surprised that todd likes this but i'm not sure I do. I'll try again at least once more when I'm not as distracted.

JJ Cale - I'm only about halfway through but loving this. I will be buying more JJ. Stu, thanks and you can add him to the small intersection between stuesque and billygian muzak.

Just dl'ed the Tom T. Hall and Dogs Tenners. Also still need to give first listens to the Thin Lizzy, Fats Domino, Buffett, Black Oak Arkansas, Edwyn Collins

John Hiatt "Bring the Family" Nick Lowe- bass, Jim Keltner - drums, Ry Cooder - guitar.... brilliant... they support and elevate him like the Band did Dylan...

Playing the Dom Mariani right now. I've decided I don't want to know or associate with anyone who doesn't like '1 Time 2 Times Devasted'.

i would like to do some of these...but encountering a problem

everytime i try to save songs from disk to my hard drive, and then try to play them - itunes opens up. How can i get all these songs nicely in a folder on my C drive without itunes getting in the way? Also worried that if i find a way to shut down itunes - everything i have in it will be erased

any help would be appreciated - ill do some good 10 song compilations. thanks

I don't really know what you're aiming at here. But I'm pretty sure that if you shut down iTunes nothing will disappear since everything is stored on your hard drive in files, instead of being a part of the program. Even playlists are just text files.

thanks for your help.

ive got it figured out now, and have a Grant lee phillips upload available

Finally got around to The Iguanas tenner. Lovin' most of this - some tasty, smooth R&B grooves, every now and then a Keef-ish geetar lick shows its head. My fave songs are the more straightahead things like "9 Volt Heart" and "I Moved Too Slow", and "Mexican Candy" has an almost Morphine vibe (a latin Morphine... which is a concept someone needs to hop on STAT). I'm less enamored with the more outright latin stuff - "Para Donde" and "La Llanta Se Me Poncho" remind me why I don't like Los Lobos as much as I probably should. I'll have to investigate further.

I hope this doesn't mean my Last.fm is gonna be full of mariachi mofos now.

Makes sense that 9 Volt Heart would be your favorite. Dave Alvin, who is a big fan, co-wrote that song.

okay, if you guys can provide a bari sax player and drummer i will tear all of the frets off of my bass and dub the new band 'los zamorfinos' (as long as there is four-part harmony).

Downloaded that Ike Reilly and burned it to a disc way back and finally got around to listening to it last night on my way home after too much beer. Damn, I will very soon be needing to grab a couple discs from this guy. The first half seemed a bit rougher around the edges and I preferred a bit. Any suggestions where I should start with this fella? Anyone got a favorite album of his you wanna pimp?

Oh...and burning it to a disc that also fits the Link Wray 10 makes for some good late night drunken listening.

"Salesmen and Racists" is where I started. Can't go wrong with that one although "Sparkle and Finish" is almost as good. Some will argue that it is.

No worries.
Have you checked out the Outrageous Cherry tenner ?
It's the side project of The Voles, Matt Smith.

9 Volt Heart is great. That whole tenner is pretty sweet.
