Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold as Love

this album, aside from being incredible overall, contains the best classic rock song ever written, in the minds of all kaths. meaning this kath.

Which is? Little Wing I hope because that's his best song.

that is the one.

Actually the title track from Axis (last on the album) is probably still my favorite song period, going back to when I was 13. I intentionally almost never listen to it anymore, so some of the good stays on it. Shit still brings the armhair action.

Let me take this opportunity to once again state that I can't stand Jimi Hendrix.

Yeah, after seeing your top 100, you should definitely give it a wide berth. It's, like, y'know, music.

hey brah
I know I didn't have any great "musical" records by sparklehorse or rancid on mine
but we actually shared a handful on our lists

Totally agree, another of his best. I really like his "slower" songs like this one.

I always felt like he was almost better at singing through a guitar than a mic, and that song is such a good example of it.

I have to agree. Never cared for Hendrix's voice.

I heard
Tom Waits - Raindogs
about a million years ago, but don't really remember a damn thing about it.
Guess I should hear it again?

I only heard that one for the first time when I was 29 or so.
Pretty much became my all-time favorite album right away. I envy you the discovery. Have fun!

He was shy as shit about it to the day he died. He knew he wasn't an amazing singer. But I think he made the most of what he had to work with, because he was tired of being a sideman, and because he had good things to say. He was equal parts James Brown swagger and new-kid-in-school bashfulness, (which made him an easy target for 13-yr-old Squirrgle adolation... it's hard to root for the ones who are already their own biggest cheerleaders.)

And I too really like his voice. His intimidation about singing caused him to sound very sincere when he did it, and probably helped him get so expressive with the guitar. If you can't paint the picture the way you want to vocally, then you do it another way.
