so I love Roxy Music and Eno's Music for Airports is one of my favorite albums and holds a very special place in my heart. Last night I picked up
Apollo: Atomospheres and Soundtracks and love it.

where to go from here? I tend to like the more ambient/electronic stuff he does.

Start at his mouth, work your way down, then crawl through his lower intestine and out his bum.

Another Green World (pop, but with great textures)
After the Heat (w/ Moebius & Roedelius of Cluster)
Ambient 4: On Land
My Life in the Bush of Ghosts (w/ David Byrne)

Here Come the Warm Jets is my favorite Eno solo album, but it's closer to Roxy Music than the ambient/electronic stuff.

Any of his first 4 solo albums are masterpieces:
Here Come the Warm Jets
Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy
Another Green World
Before and After Science

All are more of his pop side, but still with multiple layers and very nuanced, textured sounds. Another Green World is probably the closest of those records to the ambient thing (and is also my favorite), so start there.

Also, Wrong Way Up (with John Cale) is also brilliant.

My favorites:

Another Green World
Before and After Science
Ambient 4: On Land

Also, if you like On Land, check out Steve Roach's Early Man.

if music for airports had been the first solo eno album i'd heard, i may not have seeked out more by him. i'm really into the pop records more. but i agree that ambient 4 and maybe even discreet music are probably the next best choices if you're getting into eno via the ambient route.

yeah Music for Airports IS the first I have heard. Obviously it has a time and place to be used...

Don't know if this has been posted yet or not, but the new Brian Eno/David Byrne collab:

I like Roxy Music but I haven't cared for any of the Eno I've heard. I should probably pull out Warm Jets and give it a second chance.

These are some of the best "songs" ever written in rock, even beyond the masterful production. I always was curious why something like Drawn from Life (2001) and Another Day on Earth (2005) got such little notice. Not up to the standard of the first four, but great songs and ideas.

But if you are into the ambient side after Airports and Apollo:

On Land
Music for Films 2
Music for Films 1
Music for Films 3

One of my favorites, though it's his most minimal, is Neroli. And check out Roger Eno, his brother, whose solo work I always thought was really Brian.
