I didn't do a Listmania because I've been keeping my Konstantiranks 00's decade list for 8 years now and it would have 'given away' the top records.

You can see that list on 1st Jan 2010.

Bet you can't wait.

ditto...

Plus, I just realized that submitting my list tomorrow (or even now) = bunk, since August 31st somehow doesn't count as, by pushing the date a month up from September 30, the end of August.

Too bad.... I can't wait for some album to blow chunks near the top without my vote counted. If my submission(s) counted, I would have more of an excuse to bitch about Matthew Sweet coming in #1 (or so)...

As it is, I won't have a (voting) leg to stand on...

The only reason I even volunteered to do all the legwork is because I like exercises like this and I think they're fun.

We got some discussions going. We got some actual positive things said to one another (which is pretty rare around here). We got two lurkers to come out of the shadows and post.

It's pretty inevitable that a lot of the lists are going to have similar titles considering music is the primary reason we all came together. Instead of sighing about another list full of Dylan and Radiohead, go through and fix on the ones that you haven't seen on other lists. They should be pretty interesting.

Anyway I'm out of here in half an hour and won't be back until tomorrow evening so there's still time for the last few whoevers to submit if they want. When I get back, I'll take whatever's in my inbox and the ones posted on the board but not submitted and throw 'em at the wall.

Hopefully the results can start being revealed Wednesday a.m.

You know based on the number of comments, it seems like we really did. Everyone seemed to focus on the order in their top 20 and then randomly add the other 80.

And we're done.

I'll add up the remaining lists and start revealing results Wednesday morning.

I'm thinking 5 a day until we get to the top 10. I know the anti-Listmania types will whine but, really, it's one post a day and it's discussion about music. So tough it out.

Good job on this project, alongwaltz. If nothing else, it revived the discussion on this board, which was getting so boring it was almost not worth visiting.

I for one am looking forward to the results posts, and the arguments they produce.

And I'm still pissed Lonesome Crowded West isn't going to make the cut, BTW.

Sorry, I'll rephrase that. I'm going to grab it, I just haven't got around to it yet due to T being late in the alphabet.

I can honestly say I didn't do that.

Whether the results are realistic is a completely different thing... but I most definitely agonized my way through trying to properly organize all 100. Actually, I organized about 170, since that is how many albums I pulled as possibly making the final cut.

I'm counting 65 lists being compiled into the obner master list.

There were a couple who didn't rank theirs and a couple who insisted they didn't want to be involved in the overall obner list so about 70 people participated in its entirety, I suppose.

so you're really going to stretch this out for 20 days?

I can't decide whether I think that's really awesome since it will no doubt really annoy everyone who is already sick of listmania or really dumb since i'll surely be sick of it myself a few days in.

I just figure doing it in chunks will allow more room for discussion.

I could post all 100 at once but then we'll just get comments on how the top 10 sucks. This way we can maybe get some "wow, I wasn't expecting that to make the 100" or "man, I haven't heard #97 in so long. I need to play that." or whatever.

Posting the results in chunks and dragging it out is definitely the way to go.
If you post the whole list at once, people will make a few coments and that's it. Posting one album or a few at a time will at least generate a little discussion about individual albums, although probably not as much as the last time we did this.

Thanks for doing this, alongwaltz.

Finally finished tabulating the data.

Final count: 3034 different albums.

Spoiler alert: not a single female vocalist in the top 100 other than a couple of Kims. And they're not really lead vocalists, anyway.

i just want to chime in that im really excited to see the results of this. Im on another forum, a classic rock one, where Zombeels did one of these (cudos to him for doing it), but the results were entirely predictable on that board (and dull) - a few beatles albums, rolling stones, who etc....whereas the results here will have much more range.

Maybe do 20 albums at a time, then fewer as it gets close to the top.

Don't drag it out too far.
