Average Metacritic score is 88 (40 Reviews):

TV On The Radio
Dear Science (DGC/Interscope)
US Release date: September 23
---Fast'n'Bulbous does not count towards Metacritic scores---:

TV On The Radio, Dear Science, (DGC/Interscope) 10

TV On The Radio's second album, Return To Cookie Mountain (2006) divided its audience. Some were disappointed, others think they'll never top it. It was an oppressive wall of sound that accomplished exactly what it set out to do. It was a dark, prickly, heavy album that took me two months to properly absorb, and still holds up two years later. Dear Science, is just as complexly layered, but more immediate. The melodies are sweeter, and there's more air between the layers, making instruments and vocals more discernable. I see it less as flaws in David Sitek's production, but rather the band's evolution. On the first couple listens it was obviously catchier, funkier, even sexier. Polished but still rough where it counts. My third listen on headphones is what floored me. After finishing it I felt wobbly with catharsis, like I'd spent a day traveling in an unfamiliar country with a lover, having deep conversations, getting drunk, arguing, and ending the night at 3 a.m., exhausted from intense make-up sex. The feeling wasn't diminished after my 20th listen.

when Tony (F'n'B) said on my other board that this is the best album he has heard in the last 13 years than i had to see if the hype was real for this one. it will probably win the Pazz And Jopp poll this year...

i have to admit that i'm am smitten by this album, "Shout Me Out" is one of the best songs of this year, period. regardless of the praise it still might just make my top 10 at around nine or ten but could be bumped a few pegs down.

a few great tracks, but even those have things that make me cringe.

Also, not enough staying power.

Still, it's a pretty good record.

Coulda done with a little less fagging around.

I'm glad they're trying new things, and I enjoy it when I listen to it. While I expect it to grow, I still don't see it surpassing Cookie Mountain for me.

Ive really wanted to like this album but like radcliffe "I almost like this album". Which is depressing to me. I continue to play it in hopes that it grows on me.

I liked it enough to go back and relisten to their previous records. I don't know if I'm a true fan of the band or just the album right now, but either way, great songs on here.

I was about 50/50 on Cookie Mountain when it came out: I revisited it last week and still feel the same. It has some good moments but also some "fall short" songs. I have but haven't listened to their other stuff in a while.

Still haven't picked this up. Still out on whether I will or not. Not even enough motivation to dl it.

CM was a downer for me. It came out probably when I happened to be listening to their music the most, so the hype machine was in full effect. In the end it just left me. There really wasn't anything I found that kept me yearning to listen to it.

I think this is the best thing they've done, but I still don't love it. It's good, right at the bottom of my Top 20 right now, but somehow I can just never really get into what these guys do.

i didn't like the album at first, and after a few spins, thinking i might give it a chance. "dlz" is my favorite on the album.

Three albums, one good song is not a great return on my investment.

mediocre to my ears. i've given up on this band but may return to it in the future. as it is, it's a far cry from my top 50.

It has my favorite track of the year on it, but not enough to make it a top five album for me. I'd sure like to see these guys live soon, that might change my opinion.

I keep trying to like this.... lots of people whose taste I respect really like them and this. But with each release I can't see it or hear it. Maybe I need to see them live.

Kind of reminds me of an old band Pere Ubu, whom I respected but never liked. Both leave me with the same feeling I get when I've eaten too many pancakes.
