Alphabetically/chronologically, on wooden bookcase-type shelves, w/ EPs & remixes filed w/ the artist. Then there's another section for purchased compilations, then boxes for comps people have made for me and my comps, and various binders for misc. stuff. My wall looks like Bort's pretty much, but my shelves don't sag. :P

Pretty close to Bort's pic, minus the sagging. Hee. And my shelves are taller, so nothing's above them. I think he's got me beat on overall width, though.

The CD's themselves are in alphabetical order. And where there's multiple releases by one artist, those are in chronological order. The bottom shelf I have seperated into the genres that don't fit under the "pop/rock" umbrella ( classical, spoken word, r&b/hip hop, reggae, jazz, etc. ) .

I've got around 2500 CD's, & if I didn't do it this way I'd never friggin' find anything.

I got this from Best Buy a few years ago and it works fine. Only fits 1080 cds in case you had more.

Take away one set of shelves, and that's pretty much what mine is like. Except I have these sort of ugly black shelves that I got from Best Buy.

It's alphabetical by artist, and then each artist's albums are chronological.

Then I've got this really long queue of recent stuff arranged in stacks on my computer desk at home. It's probably up to a few hundred by now.

I've been planning to stop buying CDs for a few years now, but I just keep getting more and more. I guess that, as much as I hate to admit it, if I bought a shiny new iPod with a decent-sized screen that I enjoy looking at, I might actually be able to get into the whole no-physical-media listening experience. As it is, I really don't mind lugging a bunch of CDs back and forth to work, and I'd rather just be able to grab something and rearrange stacks than always be transferring files and organizing playlists. I like listening to whole albums, not songs on random or even mixes, really, and digital listening seems much more single-song-oriented to me.

Alphabetically; if artist goes by their own name, like "Neil Young", it goes in the N's. If I have multiple records by the same band, they go chronologically.

I listen to most of my music in my car or work CPU. I need hard copies for the car. I have an FM transmitter for my iPod, but the reception is always fuzzy in town, so I stick to the CDs.

I finally bought a CD rack and organized my CDs. I went with strict alphabetical order. I did that for DVDs as well. For DVDs I had thought about separating music and documentaries from movies and TV

i do exactly this, including the seperation of dvd's as you mention.

I have a standard bookcase from Canadian Tire. CD's are all alphabetical order by artist, then title.

My collection was getting up toward 800 or so discs earlier this year but I had an epiphany and realised it was getting to be more about obsessive owning and collecting than actual love for the music involved and I just couldn't afford that anymore.

Since then I've sold off about half the collection. I look it and think I have nothing now but I still have more than anyone else I know in real life and I can safely say I love every album I own now.

It was longer than two years. It was never the same after I moved, and I could tell it wasn't as sturdy as it once was.

I got about 8 of those Ikea cd shelf units for the music and a bunch of bookcases for the movies.

I have a cabinet in my basement full, plus a shelf and some bins in my room. No order or anything to it, though someday I plan on building a big shelf for all of them.

Though I did just go through and count my collection, which is at 2,683 right now. My friend wants to come by one day and make a giant pyramid out of them outside and take a picture.

this doesn't sound like a lot.

but this does, considering my collection (as shown in the picture) in only nearing the 2,000 mark.

My shelves are just paving bricks & thick poplar boards. It sounds really "dorm room", but if you use the nicer, thick wood it looks OK. And the bricks are the perfect size for CD's.

i thought this as well, and a couple years later i still buy just as many cd's...possibly even more. i think i'll always want the physical product, booklet, etc.

Hey, folks- if you're trying to get rid of CDs, remember your local libraries. Just drop 'em off & they'll use them somehow. My town also has a Friends Of The Library that sells used books & music & helps fund the libraries. That's where I take all my rejected fitty-cent CDs that the library won't want.

sort of like mine but i think 2 of my shelves are taller than those (10 rows) and then i have 2 smaller ones that are 5 rows. they're all filled so i have the overflow sitting on top of the big ones.

also, my dad and i just made dvd shelving that's around 6'3". i don't even know how many dvd's i have but the rack is almost full.
