All I want is a free program that will let me rip CD's to mp3's at the bitrate of my choice.

I was using FreeRip for the longest time until they suddenly decided to fuck things up. I switched to MediaMonkey about a month ago and suddenly get a message today that, if I want to keep using the rip function, I have to buy it now.

CDex rules.
I think the new version makes you pay for mp3 capabilities, but I have a copy of the most recent version that is totally free if you want the link.
Actually, I think it was db Power Amp that made you start paying.

Here is the link to CDex which gives the best file naming options:
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/?q=download

CDex is the only program that automatically names folders and files to my organizational requirements:
"Artist\Artist - Year - Title\Artist - Track Number Leading 0 - Track"

I also have a link to the last free db Power Amp 10.0 if you want which is pretty good.

I downloaded CDex via google before you edited your post and it looks good. Really simple (I just want a ripper, not a music player or converter or anything like that) and the file naming capabilities were one of the first things I noticed. I was generally annoyed by having to go through afterward and rename all my files with the other programs.

exact audio copy can be a royal pain to set up, but this guide is easy enough to follow, and when youre done you can essentially forget about it.
