and there are plenty of bad stones songs. "Far Away Eyes" is one. almost all of their 80s output is pretty bad. and call it sacrelige, but i can't stand "Gimme Shelter"

God, you are one misguided sack of shit.....oh well, i guess you probably grew up near power lines or your mom drank while she was pregnant with you or SOMETHING........

wow. i wish i cared enough to respond to your completely fucking inane attack there. "Far Away Eyes" is Mick trying to piss Keith off by pissing all over his idols (other than Chuck Berry), the majority of that decade's output blows (glaring exception: Stu's piano loop at the end of Dirty Work), and I happen to not like "Gimme Shelter". Those, my friend, are the breaks.

Some Girls is 1977..and the majority of that decades' output is awesome.

Far Away Eyes is them cutting a tongue in cheek country rambler, and it rules.

actually, the original take of "Far Away Eyes" has Mick singing in a totally sincere and earnest voice. It wasn't until the last take that Mick pulled that shit out and Keith was livid with him for it.

and by "that decade", I was referring to the 80s. Some Girls[ is one of my favorite albums, and easily in the top 5 greatest comeback albums ever recorded.

i've figured out, from watching this board and taking my part for many years, that often Yail sounds like he's taking something personal but it's just his way of talking shit. at least, i think that's true.

I want a source on these allegations Cotton. I've read just about every Stones book/bio there is and haven't come accross that. And, I'm not trying to be a dick, because if it's in something I haven't read, well, I'll be at dat bookstore tomorrow.

you'll have to give me a ocuple days to find out which book it is, since most of my stones books are in storage right now, but it's inone of 'em.

incidentally GAR have you ever heard the orignal version of "Sway" with both Keith and Mick singing the whole vocal? It's fucking incredible.

No, I haven't sounds crazy. You have any crazy outtakes, etc??

As to books, I have read:
Up and Down with the Rolling Stones by "Spanish" Tony Sanchez, which is mainly about him being Keef's asst, but also about Brian
True Adventures of the Rolling Stones by Stanley Booth, which runs through Altamont, and is mainly about how they fucked Brian and his original vision of the band
Stones Tour America '72, which is about the 72tour.
Old Gods Almost Dead by Stephen Davis. Davis spells out the split between the camps and how you can't have a foot in each one, unless you are Ronnie Wood...and then youwill occasionally be thrown out of theband by Mick for taking Keef's side, and hit in the face by Keef for smoking Freebase.

I did not read Wyman's book, because he is just too much of monger even for me. And I haven't read the Vic Bockris Keef bio, either

I used to have a bunch of outtakes, but they all got scratched/stolen, etc... Most of them weren't very good, though the "Sway" kicks ass, and there's the original "You Got The Silver" with both of them singing which is pretty cool. From what I understand the only reason that ended up a Keith vocal is because Mick's track got edited out by accident as a result of really, really high recording staff.

Sanchez' book was okay, but you know he's leaving a lot out, considering he had a full time gig as Keith's dealer for the better part of a decade. Was Booth's the one that kept reiterating that the Stones run through people like tissues until they're no longer useful, with Brian Jones, Marianne Faithfull, and Jimmy Miller as the prime examples?

If you haven't already, check out Victor Brockris' Keith. Because you know he's got all the best stories anyway. Kris Needs (who wrote a hilarious Primal Scream bio a few years ago) just wrote another Richards book, but I haven't read it yet. It's crazy because every book about him has like 10 fucking insnae stories that the others don't have.

Booth's has that general theme..including GRam Parsons.

It also has the hilarious quotes like "Gram got better cocaine than the mafia, he got it from a Black Panther dentist in Watts"

and "Its the best thing they have going. Keith has no idea what he is saying, and Mick understands every word"

and the like. I always avoided Bockris' book, b/c I figured it would just rehash stuff I already knew, but I will check it out for sure, now

well, you might've heard a lot of it, but Keith starting fights in the disco at his birthday party, telling Peter Tosh he better aim for his head, and getting coldcocked by Chuck Berry alone make it a pretty damned interesting read.

I'll try to find that track and put it uup on yousendit

I finally heard this album today.

Boy, does it blow chunks. In other words, it'll probably be a huge commercial success. This band is all hype and no substance. Louis XIV tries hard to ape early 70's English rock a la early Bowie but does it very, very badly. The singer even has this fake-sounding English accent as he talks through most of the songs, imitiating the beginning part of John, I'm Only Dancing over and over again in various degrees of tongue in cheek and snarkiness.

I have to say that it's rare that I actually get mad listening to music but Louis XIV makes me want to run over and punch them all in the face, hard.
