Screw the list; the handwritten ballots are a riot.

Ozzy has remarkably good penmanship...unless Sharon was taking dictation.

courtney love's ballot brings the LOLZ on several levels

From reading those ballots, I could totally hang with Keef, Springsteen, Steve Cropper, Jim James, Clem Burke, and Patti Smith (although me and Patti might have an issue over Grace Slick). The rest of them are obvious dinks.

And fuck me, why is there such respect for Steve Winwood? Blech.

actually an interesting list, lazy in parts and about 30 are ridiculous, but lists are always fun.

Fluid phrasing, throaty but tasteful timbre, soulful intensity, great range...

You probably don't like Bill Medley, Denny Laine, Peter Gabriel, Michael McDonald, Van Morrison, Georgie Fame... any number of whom could happily sing over soulful handclaps.

Yeah, with the exception of Van Morrison, the only list everyone you just mentioned would appear on is my "pray they were never born" hot 100.

I think this is a case of his insipid solo work filtering perceptions of how he sounded to new ears in the Spencer Davis and Traffic years. Some of the vocals in Traffic are adequate justification for someone with reasonable judgment to pick him as a Top 20 singer.
