So, I'm getting married on the 18th. We had originally picked Time Has Told Me by Nick Drake, but the fiance thinks it's too slow. We're both getting sick of planning this thing (actually we reached that point months ago), so give us some suggestions and help us out!

Our tastes are pretty much in line with a lot of the music talked about here, so whatever suggestions you have would be cool.

Thanks!

someone on this board mentioned The Zombies - This will be our year...I think that's the perfect choice.

Johnny Ace - Pledging My Love

That's what me and the Mrs. danced too. Pick something with soul and not something indie please.

I've always thought that David Mead's "Queensboro Bridge" would be a great wedding song if you changed just a few of the words. As it is, it's not quite right.

A couple of others that could work are Grant-Lee Phillips' "Mona Lisa"
and Ken Stringfellow's "Here's to the Future." Just throwin' them out there.

Ha - Mean Streets. Johnny Ace was very influential on Swamp Pop and I heard it a good bit growing up because most Swamp Pop bands play it. So it existed before Mean Streets for me. Scorsese is a man of taste.

I was just being sarcastic - we definitely want something with substance over style. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I'm at work and can't check them out yet, but i will later.

I've been working on a playlist for one of these too. Good luck.

Can you dance? If not, slow is the way to go.

Put It In Your Mouth?

or, for non-groomsman suggestions...

I've always liked "Memories" by Leonard Cohen, "Marie" by Randy Newman, and any untold number of sorta-creepy waltz-type songs.

There's always the James Brown version of "It's a Man's World", which always brings the house down.

My buddy had theirs to this as well. Pretty strange. It was on the Eastern shore of Maryland in the backyard of some upper crust folks right on the Chesepeake (sp?). It was all black tie and a bit snooty and they danced to some Spiritualized. Pretty sweet.

As to the topic, this will be one of my toughest decisions if I ever get married.

I have a few in mind BUT I'll never tell you nacho. You can't have 'em. Sorry.

Or if the little lady's got a weight problem, you could go with You're the One for Me, Fatty by Morrissey instead.

I've always though it would be hilarious to use Elvis Costello's "Wave a White Flag" as a first dance song. You're mileage may vary.
