You guys have hit most of mine but here are a few more:

"Fly Away" by Lenny K. not because I hear it too much but because it's the worst song of all-time.

Any John Mellencamp song because I couldn't bee more sick of the man

Any Eagles, Doobie Bros, Journey, Foreigner, or Stix song because those bands are just plain awful.

Any Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Petty or Doors songs (I still like those artists but the radio songs are just so tired)

You had me until Zeppelin and Petty.

I'd actually be interested in learning how they decided on what music to play on satellite.

The stations are individually programmed but I think the PD"s fall into two categories: People who worked in regular radio and people who got run out of regular radio (which sort of fits the mold on how good/bad the station is I'd imagine)

Even though I clarified that I still like the artists? You have to admit they've been over-played. How many times do you really need to hear Free Fallin' or Rock 'N Roll?

minus the raconteurs, i'd be fine with never hearing any of those bands again.

I heard Alanis Morissette, "Hand in my Pocket" on Friday. That song wasn't big 10 years ago.

Here is what regular radio is for: I was driving my wife's car and even though I think that the Chili Peppers are easily the most overplayed band on rock radio (much moreso than even STP), I heard "Breaking The Girl" for the first time in at least 12 years and it was just so. fucking. good.

Took me back.

There are several songs from that album that can make me stop whatever I'm doing. I never actually owned it, either... everybody had it, and it was all over the radio. Definately as good as they were ever gonna get.

I actually prefer the album that came out before -- Mother's Milk. That was when I was in my serious Chili Peppers phase. BSSM is what started turning me off to the band; just never warmed up to that one.

BSSM as a whole is a pretty annoying album, but it had some pretty good singles.

I think that the best songs on that album were NOT the singles. But that's coming from someone who was a RHCP cultist at the time, and is now not a fan.
"They're Red Hot"
"Apache Rose Peacock"

And one or two more.
But I do remember thinking that the singles were the songs that got under my skin.

Hmm, my memory of it is admittedly fuzzy, but looking over the tracklist, I think I'll stand by my statement.

Just reading the titles of most of the album tracks makes me cringe at the thought of actually listening to them. "The Righteous & The Wicked", "Funky Monks", "Sir Psycho Sexy"... ugh. I do remember really liking "I Could Have Lied" at the time, but I can't recall what it actually sounds like.

Yeah, there's a handful of those RHCP tunes that still get me. Another one for me is 'Taste the Pain'. That's the kind of cut that needs to be played on the satellite 90s alt channel.

GOD I wore that album out at the time. Then promptly put it down and never thought about it again until right now.

Yes.
That and "Knock Me Down" are the kinds of songs that turned my on the the Chili Peppers in the first place.

Mother's Milk was the jam at the time but that thing aged faster than...well...milk.

Drink--i agree with the cringeworthy song titles but two of those songs you mentioned ("R & the W" and "Funky Monks") are pretty cool tunes, right?

I honestly don't know, I misplaced or sold all my Chili Peppers and am left with only the Dave Navarro one of all things.

I actually can't remember what "Funky Monks" sounds like, but I do remember "R & the W". I don't think I ever liked it.

But then chances are, if there are songs I like on that album now, they're probably different ones than I would have picked when I was 14.

Damn, I almost want somebody to up BSSM now so I can hear it again.

Haha, yeah me too.

I'm sure it's time I'll end up wanting back, but curiosity is getting the best of me.

I think the only RHCP I still have is One Hot Minute, oddly enough. Not their best, I know. My copies of BSSM and Californication got severely damaged although I definitely don't miss the latter at all and absolutely do not want to revisit it.
