Absolutely ridiculous that the Tragically Hip arent on there. American media have always given the Hip the shaft and i have no idea why. The Hip are 10 times better than Sloan, and most Canadians would agree with that.

Also silly that Bruce Cockburn or Tom Cochrane arent on the list, both musicians have had very prolific careers and are now close to being legends up here. I would have also liked to have seen 54.40, Blue Rodeo, and Hayden on the list - a top 20 should definitely see those make the cut. I like the Stars and Metric, but i dont really think they deserve a place above all those.

And no Gordon Lightfoot? I always thought that many Canadians considered him some kind of national treasure. Would think that he would get a passing mention.

Not this one, but I agree the Hip would be on my list -- under Sloan.

If the Band can qualify as Canadian, so can Steppenwolf. They're not a favourite of mine, but they're better than Sam fucking Roberts.

I'd also add D.O.A, Skinny Puppy and Stompin Tom Connors. And Paul Anka. Yeah, really.

I used to go to Model UN conventions up in Toronto on a regular basis during college, and it always amazed me how into the Hip the Canadian College students were in the mid to late 90's. They would get so offended when I/we didn't care for the band or weren't impressed. They may have gotten the screw job by us Yanks, yet I never really got why they were so huge at that time.

Also where is the mention of Nickelback? Maybe Sum 41?

I've seen Metric live a few times and still don't understand the attraction.

While I do love Sam Roberts, I wouldn't expect to see them on a Top Ten list.

Sarah Harmer should be on this list too. Hell, so should Moxy Fruvous and Great Big Sea. You could even make a case for Zuckerbaby.

All are better than the hip.

I saw Moxy Fruvous once at Lee's Palace in like the Winter of 1997 ot 1998, there was going to be an awesome show a few days after I left Toronto. I believe that was the same trip that REM was at the Much Music studio

That's who I was going to mention. I thought Canada was amazingly in love with him and his poetry.

What!!! No Klaatu??

Seriously, Cohen and Lightfoot should be on the list. I'm also very happy the Hip didn't make the list. They bore me to tears and are the most overhyped / overplayed act out there today.

I also think Steppenwolf and New Pornographers should be mentioned.

List FAILS due to the absence of Ian Tyson. Ask Neil Young.

Maybe spin was listing "musicians" in a literally sense as opposed to "artists"

But that still wouldn't explain leaving out Hawkins or Tyson or Gordo in favor of Stars.

Cohen might not be a stellar "musician" but Cockburn is one of the best guitarists in the history of rock.

I'd put the New Pornos and Weakerthans on my list, but nobody that reads Spin knows about them.

Look i'm making an argument for your miserable country besides poutine. Don't fuck up this tenuous allegiance, you guys need all the help that you can get, even if your healthcare is light years ahead of ours.

Don't you have some plaintive posting to do, pleading with us to listen to some fantastic new demos from whatever shitty band you're currently pimping.
