This is really interesting battle of seminal albums that arguably defined two consecutive generations of fans.

No, I mean I like them both pretty equally and can't decide.

If it were Sister, SY would have the edge, easily. I generally like SY a lot more than Radiohead, but then this is probably the one Radiohead album that has really stood the test of time for me.

Radiohead, OKC is an epic concept album and a sonic masterpiece IMO.
Sonic Youth also came off as whiny bitches when Kim Gordon criticized the name your price model of In Rainbows.

Maybe you'd whine if a bunch of glum millionaires threatened your livelihood.

As for OKC it's become like one of those Victorian follies that litter the British countryside where some demented gentleman decided to build a ridiculous copy of the Coliseum in a field in Hampshire and then ran out of money half way through and then was locked up in an asylum for being barking mad, ie, poorly constructed, tragically sated with delusions of grandeur and culturally missing the point entirely.

As for Sonic Youth, here is a band than actually melded high art concepts with rock music and kept it exciting, vital and DANGEROUS.

If you even consider voting Radiohead then in any just world, you, as a dull, plodding, woe-is-me, faux intellectual ought to be drowned in a barrel of pitch.

And while that's going on us Sonic Youth types will be hanging out on dark New York street corners in shades and lion t-shirts, fearless, yes, fearless, fortified with ROCK N ROLL and NOISE and iconic, aesthetic, glory of a shaggy haircut and a Fender Jazzmaster set to COOL.

SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! SONIC YOUTH! The drum sounds on the song on the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack made me want to run out of the theater and record 100 albums. There are moments like that on OK Computer, but not enough for the album to still kick my butt all these years later.

Daydream starts off with their biggest bang, but kind of coasts through the rest being very solid but without the highs of their other great albums.

i voted with the four utes.

Did they really threaten Sonic Youth's livelihood? I mean come on, how many more copies of The Eternal would they sell if Radiohead had remained with Capitol Records and not offered it for free? I'm pretty sure Sonic Youth has both the connections and the fan base to sell their own record, The Faint did it for christsake.

I read somewhere a few years ago that Sonic Youth's guarantee is upwards of $50k-$100k. They could never make another dime from album sales and still be very wealthy.

So what does that mean? $50k-$100k yearly? For each member? Or something else entirely?

Because $50k a year is far from fucking wealthy. In this country.

I believe he is referencing their per show guarantee. That would be a staggering amount, that would easily cover a lack of album sales.

Yeah, it's per show. It's an unbelievable amount of money.

Hell the Pixies got a quarter of a million total for doing 5 shows at the Aragon here in Chicago in 2004 or whenever that was, so I'd believe it.

Yeah, call it $75k a show, do 15 shows a year, and it's $281,250 per member a year, before taxes and any other income.
