It wasn't something I wanted to do either, but in the heat of battle the Dr handed me some shears and I had to step up.

Same here - no blood squirting across the room either, but it was definitely harder to cut than I thought it was going to be.

those classes were excruciatingly dull. 9am on a saturday? we were late every week and skipped a few. both kids were c-sections anyway.

on a very scary note: my oldest will be 20 next month.
(what the fuck happened?)

oh, and cap'n...waiting to babgysit.

yeah, same here, but then the doc asked if i wanted to cut the cord, so i stood up and did it and luckily the adrenaline was rushing so i didn't notice all of my wifes internal organs placed neately around her, all ready to be shoved back inside. good times.

And thanks. Are you guys actually expecting or just planning on it?

Expecting. We're about 21 weeks in.

I'm I guess I'm looking at Bradley more as a "supportive" kinda thing, although a friend of ours told us they were really helpful for her.

I think the Busty's did those. Not sure though.

Congrats on being expecting.

man, i cut the cord. the nurses were like "WHO'S CUTTING THE CORD' while looking right at me. i'm like "i am?" and so they hand me this pair of scissors like half the regular size and hold up this gray, wet umbilical cord with clamps about 8 inches apart. they tell me to cut, and i just thought that it would be like cutting a ribbon, nice and easy. no. i had to saw through that piece of meat like a tube of gristle, and about halfway through the cutting was when all of the blood started spraying out like i severed an artery of her womb

have fun!

I could have done without the mention of the defecating part as mom pushes... bad memories I'm still trying to shake... scat is not where it's at as your kid tries to push on through to the other side.

But it's a magical time. Just stand at the top of the bed and give mom "thatagirl", "love ya" and "want another ice chip?" feedback, tell the Dr you do not want the mirror down below showing you anything, and you'll get through it... cutting the cord is not that big of deal. Seeing the the Dr examine this big placenta thing that looks like it came out of the ocean or the movie Aliens is a bit weird.

Childbirth isn't that complicated... smart and incredibly stupid people have been doing it for years... you'll do great.

While Ethan was being born, the doctor didn't warn me before she did the episiotomy.

I jumped about 5 feet straight up and let out a little yelp.

She turned and looked at me with a little wry smile and apologized.
I sense the apology was somewhat insincere.

Startling more than anything else.

And for Sharon, judging by what was going on down there at the time, a quick little snip was a relatively minor discomfort, if she felt it at all.

episiotomy is never an appropriate topic. Ever. Anywhere. It just exists and we don't talk about it, k?
