Crocodiles: Summer of Hate

Jesus & Mary Chain fuzzy guitar noise fans take note. This album kicks ass if you dig that sorta sound. I was pissed that I was actually on vacation when these guys stopped through town. Oh well, at least I got the record.

Justin Townes Earl: Midnight at the Movies

I like this more and more on repeated listens. Respectful Americana but not too much of a period piece. Tosses in a good Replacements cover. Frankly, I like this better than pretty much any of his dad's records. I've probably given this as much play as any new release this year so far.

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago. It was so bad on the first listen I've not had it on since but for the purposes of Konstaniranks, the rules of which state every album must be listened to in full at least three times, I guess I'll have to go back to it. Not looking forward to it though. Let's just hope I misjudged it.

Always takes a number of listens for a JH album to sink in, but on first blush it sounds truly great.

i have to assume you were not really a JH fan before listening to this?

this one is not as immediate as civilians was for me, but still - as rads said - it'll take a few spins to fully sink in. a bit more mellow and bloozier...but i can tell that this is a good one.

I didn't mind Civilians, but I never raved about it by any means. After playing it I asked myself when I could ever forsee a circumstance where this would be the album I would spin and couldn't come up with one so I immediately deleted it. This is a probably perfect soundtrack for some ideal time or place that I always miss or simply never get to.
