This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Tuesday, July 28 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

Three great albums in this group, but that Jackie-O is damn near perfect.

It's the only Mogwai album I own.

I believe I'm on the record somewhere in the archives with my complete bafflement with the fawning acclaim that The Field record got at the time of it's release.

Middling electronic music that was neither fresh with ideas nor particularly moving.

I sold back that Prefuse record and I NEVER sell things back.

I really don't know here.

when it came out, One Word Extinguisher was one of my favorite albums.

in 2009, Fig. 5 takes the cake in this group.

Judging by the rate that the votes are coming in for this group, it's no one's favorite group.

I think group 22 already has triple the votes that this one does.

Of course the worst album in this group is winning.

Deerhoof and JOMF are both among my favorites of the decade. Voted Deerhoof, but I could have gone either way.

Of course I'm going to watch them both lose to a shitty Mogwai album and a Prefuse 73 album that has aged really poorly.
