MMJ.

I don't think Mass Romantic actually has any good songs from what I remember.

Mass Romantic might have the best song ("Letters From an Occupant"), along with "Jackie" and "Slow Descent into Alcoholism"... There's some good stuff there.

Electric Version has a couple of good songs.

I HATE "Letter from an Occupant".

A tough call, but Neko's voice pushes my vote the the Pornos.

New Pornographers, even if I prefer the NOFX (Heavy Petting Zoo) cover that was the inspiration.

I don't really like that song either but really, what is it that is driving you to unconditional hate towards Mass Romantic?

I need to know. I know one doesn't really need to quantify the "why" really when it comes to music. You like what you like but I just find it hard to understand how an album that is so full of hooks and pop melodies can cause such vitriol.

I guess I just found those hooks to be really annoying? Catchy isn't always a good thing. Maybe it's just a certain range that all of their voices fall into when they harmonize, or Bejar's cadence on the songs he writes... various things about that album were fingernails-on-a-chalkboard to me. I actually spent some time with it, too. I bought it and wanted to like it after buying Electric Version, liking it OK, and then expecting MR to be better (because everyone said it was).

For me, The New Pornos only hit the spot on the better A.C. Newman songs, and he didn't really hit his stride until Electric. Never had any use for Neko or Bejar.

MMJ, I thought the porn had been eliminated from this contest.

Damn, and I thought I couldn't care less about any two albums than the Radiohead Shins match up.

Yeah, Mas Romantic was a sock in the face when I first heard it, but It Still Moves is EASY Top 10...and not much less is that good.
