What were you expecting from the Ob polls?

It was all going to end like the year end polls end as well. The albums that end up winning are the ones that usually have the widest appeal.

I'd wager that the their Top 25 will have at least 10 of the albums still remaining in the Ob polls.

Also, of those tracks that Bee posted, I think 15 of them are from albums that were in the Ob poll. Why exactly is PF's more interesting?

for me, i'd say it's because i can listen to the song while reading about it. it's something i've always enjoyed doing.

see, this is why rads is a dumb ass.

they're not telling anyone what to listen to. you listen yourself, and judge for yourself. you don't have to go by what someone "says" about a song.

old age, i know.

here's what i put in a facebook note:

500. "Velvet" The Big Pink (500 is a good spot for this placeholder)

499. "Run to the Sun" N.E.R.D. (d.e.c.e.n.t.)

498. "Scarlette" Unwound (still don't get why this band is so revered in some circles. liked it better when it was called Sonic Youth's "Dirty")

497. "Rain On" Woods (i like tuned guitars. some don't)

496. "Deck the House" Akufen (suds party, w00t. like Basement Jaxx better)

495. "Island in the Sun" Weezer (its weezer. the end.)

494. "Equus" Blonde Redhead (lost me at the vocal squeaks)

493. "Lovely Head" Goldfrapp (whistling is a lost artfrom. as is the theremin. lovely track.)

492. "The Strangers" St. Vincent (my what a terrifically eccentric song. what 4AD acts should sound like in the new millenium)

491. "Saliva" Viktor Vaughn (i bet a lot of white kids listen to this)

490. "Departures" Closer Music (kompakt continually releases awesome IKEA music)

489. "Reload It" Kano (MCs be hatin, etc)

488. "Silver" Jesu (not bad. too bad Yob blew my post-rock/doom wad for the week)

487. "The Red" Jaylib (rhymes every once in a while. C+)

486. "GrooveJet" Spiller (ibiza dance party with beautiful non-english-speaking girls, who may or may not be STD-free)

485. "Yer Bounda Fara" Ali Farke Touré (i can't understand the words. fail.)

484. "Green Grass of Tunnel" Múm (sigur ros's little sister. also, just kidding about 485)

483. "Oi!" Platinum 45 (shortlived genre, grime. loved it tho)

482. "As I Sat Sadly By Her Side" Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (such a great NC song. great tension. just great.)

481. "Don't Feel Right" The Roots (i can't not like The Roots, but i don't particularly care for them neither)

480. "Need You" Darkstar (palatable six minutes of micro-hop)

479. "Everybody Daylight" Brightback Morning Light (good for that next-day wine-headache morning where the house in unnaturally quiet and everything's like a fever dream)

478. "Asha" Pantha Du Prince (just the kind of gurgly laptop wankery i like. unobtrusive, and perfect for reading Dwell magazine on the shitter)

477. "Fools" Dodos (Animal Collective with less weird singing)

476. "Petrol" Ward 21 (great window onto the evolution of jamaican dancehall)

475. "Day n Night" Kid Cudi vs. Crookers (goofy 'puter-bop i'd put on a party mix and then forget about)

474. "Human Animal" Wolf Eyes (by far one of the more interesting Wolf bands of mid-decade)

473. "You Can't Hurry Love" The Concretes (retro-pop's not muh thing)

472. "Wild Whiskey" Comets on Fire (bought this when it came out. always had an appreciation for throwbacks to the true psyche underground of the 60s)

471. "Alice Practice" Crystal Castles (8-bit Colecovision sound palette is cool, but for how long?)

470. "Bul Ma Miin" Orchestra Baobab (song makes me hungry for whatever it is they eat over there)

469. "You Can't Go Home Again" DJ Shadow (you can't make Endtroducing again, either)

468. "What Ever Happened?" The Strokes (i remember the Strokes)

467. "Let the Good Times Roll Pt. 2" RJD2 (yes, we're going to the dagobah system, RJ)

466. "How We Used to Live" Saint Etienne (like their name suggests, kind of fancy)

465. "I'll Be Around" Cee-Lo [ft. Timbaland] (like this better than that gnarls barkley thing he lends his vokes to)

464. "The Start of Something" Voxtrot (tihs song has a funny mix. and i don't mean funny haha)

463. "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You" Black Kids (oh hey, i put this on my kids birthday mix. but he's not black)

462. "Carry Me Ohio" Sun Kil Moon (the kind of music i only really like when i'm falling in lurve, which is not very often)

461. "On My Block" Scarface (classy hippity hop tyoon)

460. "Where Do You Run To" Vivan Girls (sleater-kinney is about the only girl band that ever did anything for me, and that was only part of the time. cutesy pigeon-toed girls with giant guitars...over it)

459. "Fall From a Height (The Field Way)" The Honeydrips (hypnotic and mediocre)

458. "Far Away" Sleater-Kinney (the female Led Zeppelin. yeah, thats right. i said that.)

457. "Doctor Blind" Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton (biased, because emily haines is the pinnacle of beauty in my world. she could fart in a microphone and i'd think it was the next white album)

456. "Black and White Town" Doves (this is what billy joel would have to sound like if he wanted me to like him)

455. "Wolf Among Wolves" Bonnie "Prince" Billy (this man will never ever ever lose his voice. fucking weakling)

454. "Didn't It Rain" Songs: Ohia (another snoozer)

453. "Crusades" Fucked Up (dude, what should we call our band?)

452. "Always Wanting More" Jay Reatard (lofi pop even a reatard will love)

451. "Mary" Scissor Sisters (a rather convincing argument that yacht rock can indeed come back)

more to come

i can get through about a page of 50 each work day, figuring in a moderate amount of interruption from the knobs in marketing

I kind of want to go through and listen to the whole thing, but I really don't have time.

Anyone wanna be super awesome and (once all 500 are posted) upload a big zip file that I can listen to?

Right, that's why assembling a zip file would make the assembler super-awesome, rather than just regular awesome.

450. "Golden" My Morning Jacket (every generation gets its own Crazy Horse, right?)

449. "Utopia" Jackson and His Computer Band (a great shart-freq creeper from Warp)

448. "The Jump Off" Lil' Kim [ft. Mr. Cheeks] (i'm sure this was the '03 anthem of orange-skinned sorority queens with Joan Rivers voices)

447. "In My Arms" Mylo (refreshing synths like sonic Crystal Light. for people who like Junior Boys and do coke, or want others to think they do)

446. "Chinese Translation" M. Ward (endearing Yat accent. Put on?)

445. "Que Belle Epoque" Ricardo Villalobos (video-post --> group clips --> 4 mpgs)

444. "Adventure" Be Your Own Pet (is this girl cute? hang on. <googlegooglegoogle> kinda.)

443. "First Breath After Coma" Explosions in the Sky (the american mogwai. or a worship tune for the new wave hipster churches with coffee bars and loft ministries)

442. "Wet and Rusting" Menomena (doot DOOO doo-doo doot...) (also, mercury rev much?)

441. "For the Widows in Paradise, For the Fathers in Ypsilanti" Sufjan Stevens (my generations Leonard Cohen. LOL)

440. "Time for Heroes" The Libertines >(finally, someone uses the word "truncheon" in a song)

439. "Elephant Gun" Beirut (named after a country/state? i don't get it)

438. "Ch-Ching (Cheque 1, 2 Remix)" Lady Sovereign (still my fav savy chav)

437. "Blood on My Hands" Shackleton ('we don't need eyes where we're going...')

436. "A Sight to Behold" Devendra Banhart (the vocal coach that spawned a whole generation of folk singers singing through their nose should be written a sternly-worded letter)

435. "Rippin Kittin" Golden Boy with Miss Kittin (About 8 o'clock, 8:15. Yeah, all the time. BMW. Right at sunset. Vanilla mostly.)

434. "Don't Tell Me" Madonna (madge is so money)

433. "We Takin Over" DJ Khaled [ft. T.I., Akon, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Birdman, and Lil Wayne] (i just rolled up my window listening to this track)

432. "Overload" Sugababes (i have a strange urge to buy a mantoni suit)

431. "The New Year" Death Cab for Cutie (i have tried, in vain, to get my band Gore Lorry for Dollface to open for this band. guess they're just not into it.)

430. "Sleeping Giant" Mastadon (i'd pick this track for 430, too. solid)

429. "Standing in the Way of Control" Gossip ("Beth Ditto is known for her noticeable stage dances and her unique and revealing image. She classes herself as a punk, and thus does not wear deodorant or shave under her armpits, having once remarked that "I think punks usually smell".[4] She has been lauded for her support of positive body image,[5] despite comments from doctors that she may be causing harm to public health by normalising obesity.[)

428. "Last Days of Disco" Yo La Tengo (snewze)

427. "The Magic Position" Patrick Wolf (he has a deeper voice than i thought he would. and he doesn't sound like charles nelson reilly. disappointing.)

426. "Mississippi" Bob Dylan (like being sung to by a museum)

425. "New World" Bjork (she dies)

424. "Notorious" Turbulence (got this mixed up with Clipse)

423. "All You Need Is Hate" The Delgados (sweet orchestrations. song title reminds me of office-dork humor, where they say "more like..." and switch the direct object or verbals of the preceding statement for its exact opposite)

422. "Lights Out" Santogold (more like, "lights on." lots of girls i know like this)

421. "Up With People" Lambchop (i hope im as cool as kurt wagner when i get that old)

420. "The Light 3000" Schneider TM (its mozz-bot 3000)

419. "Golden Skans" Klaxons (some killer Michael Jackson Bad bass licks going on in the verses)

418. "Hot Like We" Ce'cile (a jamaican M.I.A.. i like, mon)

417. "From Stardust to Sentience" High Places (ethereal and clean. the perfect sndtrk for the improved version of myself where im married to an architect and we live in an oddly shaped house in the woods outside copenhagen)

416. "The Opposite of Hallelujah" Jens Lekman (would that be "hell no?" or maybe "hell yes." cute track, though. lil' violins and whatnot.)

415. "You Don't Know My Name (Reggae Remix)" Alicia Keys (want to touch the hiney)

414. "It's the Beat" [12" version] Simian Mobile Disco (doof doof doof doof doof doof doof doof doof)

413. "There She Goes, My Beautiful World" Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (gospel armageddon. my parents and i can finally agree on something)

412. "The Boom Boom Bap" Scritti Politti (not bad for a bunch of electric car drivin, yogurt eatin, healthcare havin european socialists.)

411. "Handshake Drugs" Wilco (the second barrel of Wilco's reinvention. the ending of this song really ties up neatly why wilco can be so compelling)

410. "Black Rice" Women (i don't get Women. actually, i do. they listen to the beach boys. i just wanted to say "i don't get women.")

409. "It Took the Night to Believe" SUNN 0))) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkR87msW3XI - pretty much me while listening to this track)

408. "Taste" Magik Markers (quite an impressive discography these two have. thats about it)

407. "We Don't Give a Damn About Our Friends" Girls on Top (i don't give a damn about this song)

406. "The Hand That Feeds" NIN (song is not much without the accompanying light show)

405. "Tomorrow" Superpitcher</ (label said Kompakt, knew i'd like it)

404. "Almost Ready" Dinosaur Jr. (still awesome, even if J. Mascis is starting to look like Saruman)

403. "Flipside" Freeway [ft. Peedi Crakk] (pizzle pizzle dizzle dizzle)

402. "Off the Record" My Morning Jacket (70s cop drama in the middle section. cuban heels and ugly mustaches. the whole bit)

401. "In the New Year" The Walkmen (the next afghan whigs)

i am enjoying reading through their list over there. it seems to me, as it always does with them, that they can't possibly be sincere about all the straight pop on their lists. and also i think they have super boring taste in hip hop.

on the issue of how annoying pitchfork can be, i say it's not really their fault. the problem is that there aren't enough sites like pitchfork so they have exclusive tastemaker status for the kind of music that obner likes. that kind of power is always annoying. i wish some of y'all would get more serious about your blogs or whatever and promoting that shit instead of complaining about pitchfork. who's fault is it, i ask you?
