Oh, yeah. I'd also avoid taking advice on how to treat a woman from someone who didn't have sex until middle age.

So, how'd it turn out, there, Chasester? Magical evening or long night on the couch? Props, by the way, on finding a girl who (hopefully) wants mtn bike tires / tubes for her birthday.

i wussed out and took her ass to best buy where i popped for these,Image, and some dvd-rs. then we went to dinner, which was mediocre, and we came home and she read In Touch magazine and we watched the Inferno and the Daily Show. pretty standard monday. i guess that i may have underdone it. shoe horn hasn't arrived yet.

I'm disappointed you didn't come to me before buying your tires chase. I may have been able to hook you up on the cheap given a proper amount of time.

What kind are those anyway?

i have no idea. something Specialized that was like $17 around the corner and the right size. she doesn't need megatires, she's not going off road, or even far.

Speaking of, rick, I needs me some rims somethin fierce. But I'll PM you perhaps, so as not to threadjack.

Shoehorn hasn't arrived yet? What'd you order it from like a specialty Shoehorns-R-Us shop in London? One would think that it, too, would be right around the corner.

you know, those things are actually kind of hard to find. or, at least, they didn't seem to have them, or know what they are, at target.

Ikea has some stylin' shoehorns for cheap if there's one handy.

Though again, to what end? Who are these people who need to pry their shoes off of their feet with a three foot lever?

If you don't at least pick up some flowers - NICE ones - I'm guessing she'll be requesting you take that new tire for a spin. With the request to not come back.

Here's hoping you're joking . . .

Most cut flowers are produced under circumstances your nice liberal girlfriend would be appaled by, and often using methyl bromide, the single biggest remaining threat to the ozone layer.

I think tubes, tires, and the hassle of installing them is pretty sweet for a birthday gift.

yeah, but jewelry is no threat to the ozone layer and if anybody wants to know there's a sweet little surfer bracelet at tiffany i've wanted for ages.

If it's environmentally safe gifts that we're all worried about now, nothing still works.

In Chase's defense, mine don't like flowers, at least not when she's expecting them (aka birfday). It's kinda trite. And yes, I know, lotsa girls don't think so, but some do, mine (and most hopefully his) do. They want thoughtful things that they actually need, though maybe tires are on the "vacuum cleaner" end of the spectrum.

also in my defense, my fiance is also a jeweler, so it's usually a fools errand to try and buy her jewelery if she's not picked out anything.

Ayah's a cheap date. I've spent more than that on bike tires back when I raced! I think you should hint to those grateful kids that mom needs this for the next suitable gift-giving time.
