Santogold was really cool. She made it seem like we were all friends at a party [which is a strange feeling these days as most shows I go to have been overrun by “brosâ€

i saw the Dirty Three a long time a go, and his banter was way more interesting than the songs.

If you consider insulting the audience to be entertaining, Alex Chilton can be pretty amusing at times.

A.C. Newman has had 2 or 3 guffaw-inducing bits every time I've seen the New Pornographers.

Both times I've seen him he spent more time bitching out the idiots in the audience (a la Ian MacKaye) than anything else. They were fucking with his equipment so I don't blame him.

Ami from the Monotonix is pretty hilarious.

Dirty Three: Very surprising to me the one time that I saw them, and seemingly out of place, considering how melancholy of a band they are. But Warren Ellis is one crude lush motherfucker, and his tangential song intros are amazing, and cast the band in a different light for me, more wild than sad.

Easy choice.

The Sauce Boss, Billy Wharton & the Ingredients. If you ever get the chance you'll leave full but hungry for more. . .

Quote:
"Talk about a hot show: Bill Wharton brings it-music and gumbo-to a boil and never lets 'em leave hungry . . . the poet laureate of sauce, the sauce boss himself, a gentleman by the name of Bill Wharton, a modern hero of the blues and a visionary . . . he's a gumbo preacher with a slide guitar . . . He and his band don't just perform the blues they cook them, literally . . . "Bob Shacochis, GENTLEMAN'S QUARTERLY

Quote:
"Wharton is not only a fine slide guitarist . . . but serious about the blues in an almost evangelical fashion. He respects its origins as a field hand's survival kit, and looks to ease his audience's tensions and relieve their emotional starvation with a communal meal. Music and food is an old elixir, a participatory, not a spectator event."

Well I don't know WHAT to think, Cotton. I don't know how to heat and prepare audible live music for human digestive consumption, but then surely Bob Shacochis of Gentlemen's Quarterly knows how to use the word "literally."
