Turthfully I think the SFA singles collection is the best thing out there right now, but since it's a singles collection, I'll go with stuff like Crooked Fingers, Andrew Bird, Enon, Low, Destroyer, Solomon Burke, Skygreen Leopards, Fiery Furnaces and Petra Haden. Haven't hear The Wedding Present or M. Ward or Prewitt yet. The New Order CD is damned sweet and will probably get lots of spins.

1) Low - The Great Destroyer
2) Sam Prekop - Who's Your New Professor?

With props to those others I've hear, enjoyed, but have not yet purchased:

M Ward
Archer Prewitt
Six Organs of Admittance
Black Mountain
M.I.A.

and... I'm not sure if it was officially a 2005 release but I'm loving the reissue of George Faith's " "To Be a Lover". Holy shit.

1. Bloc Party (although I only picked it up today and have given it a few spins)
2. LCD Soundsystem

Other albums I've enjoyed: 50 Foot Wave, Antony and the Johnsons, and others I've invariably forgotten
Still haven't heard: M.I.A., Prefuse 73, etc.

Dalek
Sam Prekop

50 Cent - The Massacre

Before I start getting flamed, I just wanted to say that I truly do enjoy the album. However, I currently own less than a handful of albums released in 2005, so my general opinion on the music scene this year will not mean anything until at least the end of the summer.

Frances the mute. Period. Should be number one at year's end.

Enthralling.

And, as to it not being metallic, I have been hearing touches of Metallica in it, of late. Usually, though, it sounds like Ozzy in a tug-of-war with Celia Cruz, who, even though she's dead, tends to be winning.

2.) ...Trail Of Dead - Worlds Apart
3.) Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
4.) Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
5.) Bonnie "Prince" Billy & Matt Sweeney - Superwolf

Additional props to Doves, Beck, Solomon Burke, Josh Rouse, and Thievery Corporation.

So the fact that they sound like a petulant and tonedeaf Yes screaming at Frank Zappa in an attempt to impress him doesn't bother you then?

great thread pal and people! i guess i hadn't realized what a good year this is shaping up to be. with very very few exceptions i've liked everything mentioned so far (bird, wedding present, bonnie prince billy, etc), or i've been wanting to check out a lot of it (m. ward, brighteyes). The only things that has disappointed me (well not really disappointed me, as i didn't have any expectations for it going in) was LCD Soundsystem. um, and maaaaaaybe Daft Punk. Though if i had to choose a fav right now I'd go with

Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree

it's his most produced album yet (even moreso than the previous two) but it's still brilliant. rather than the production just being a backdrop for John's front-and-center storytelling, it seems like it's much more part of the picture now. great songwriting as usual.
