Gonna be in Miami Beach for a work thing for a few days. Who can suggest places to check out? Working the whole time so not late night blow outs, but looking for cheap good stuff to occupy a couple evenings. Who wants to make suggestions. Walking distance or public transport from the Miami Beach Hilton.

seafoam is your man.

no late nights and cheap kinda count me out.

there are some extraordinary Cuban food spots. you need to check out David's Cafe at 1058 Collins Ave. Crack cocaine infused coffee, and slammin' sandwiches. not overly pricey.

also Puerto Sagua is great imo. grab the Palomilla Steak. good lordy.

bring your camera, and have a wander. an absurd amount of insanely beautiful women.

Dalen had some good mentions.

Are you at the Fountainbleau(I don't think that's Hilton anymore)?

Lincoln Road is a fine walk at night. Its a hub bub of activity from restaurants, bars etc. Its like a La Rambla, touristy but local too. Books and Books is right off the ramble, great book store.

The Buck 15 is a tiny bar above Miss Yips(Lincoln and Meridian ave) fun urban hang, dj etc. Access in the back.

The Raleigh Hotel has an amazing pool. (Collins and about 20th st). The sister hotel, The Standard, is for adults only, great pool and bar outside.

I have not checked the Catalina hotel but I hear is pretty cool, Collins and 17th.

Grab a sandwich at the outdoor alley, Le Sandwicherie. A french run sub sandwich spot.(Its on 14th between Washington and Collins Ave.) Cheap

Wash it down at the forever dive Club Deuce across the street. Not a club. Have not been there in a while, but shady, seedy, normal, interesting characters of all sorts here in the past. Cheap

Jazid
Music every night, 1342 Washington Ave. My 22 yr old niece likes this spot. Never been, hear its fun.

Espanola Way, a small street with an old Euro feel to it. Just South of 14th and Washington Ave.

Go to the beach, I think around 10th and Ocean is where the models used to hang. HTere's also a boardwalk now, but I'm not sure how long it is.

Ocean drive is touristy, but a good view from the beach will give a panorama of a good section of the historic hotels, even though some of the nicer ones are located on Collins.

Definitely ask some locals too. Peolple who live on south beach tend to know the hide outs.

There's another David's on Meridian Ave, about 50 yards from Lincoln Road, thought you might want to know so you can keep all the walking within a moderate distance.

Also, if you want to try Stone Crabs(I think they are open for the season), try Joe's Stone Crabs South of 5th at 11 Washington Ave. They are $$$ but completely unique to South FL and delicious. If interested you might want to research and see if they have lunch specials, They did last year.

just got back from miami beach yesterday. we stayed at eden roc. nice place, but for eats/fun, you want to be down in south beach.

for food, definitely second the puerto sagua rec. phenomenal cuban, and i have to have it everytime i go down there.

if you have a car and want to check out miami proper at all, or at least for a meal, sra martinez was one of the best meals i've had in a long time.

finally, this is a MUST DO nobody. if no car, take a 20 minute cab ride up to Hollywood and grab a burger from Le Tub. not only do GQ and many others rank it as the best burger in america, it is also just a really cool place to knock back beers and chill overlooking the intercoastal.

unfortunately, cheap + miami does not compute. it's worth it to throw down a little coin there. hit up the bar at the delano or the new W late night for some fantastic talent.

and if you're feeling lonely late at night, hit up Tootsies

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't mean I can't go anywhere decent, just not looking to drop a few hundred bucks in a night because I am buying a house when I get back and don't wanna go ape shit.

What time do places in Miami close up? Is it totally a late night town? I can maybe do one sorta-late night if its one of those towns that closes up around 2, but if it's like a 5AM kinda town, I'm not gonna be able to do that with work stuff going on.

it's totally a late night town. actually it's an all night town. you won't be really missing anything if you can only hang until 2. you just might have a hard time leaving....

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Got in late and tired last night, staying on Ocean drive and 1st street. Not really my kinda neighborhood, but walking a dozen blocks or so I ended up at a decent Colombian place for some food and a couple beers, not enough places by me serve plantains. Work stuff during the day and then I'm gonna try to check out some of those spots y'all mentioned this evening.

I'm kinda surprised no one mentioned this 24-hour Miami hotspot

I did a lot of walking around when I was there. I actually hit a decent cd shop on the strip. Used, but it had a surprising selection. Mostly, just injoy the Cuban and as much seafood as you can handle.

Went wandering in the early afternoon and checked out a few places, and yes that spot has fantastic sandwiches. And Club Duece looks like a fun place to go back to later on. Had one beer and intend to go back and see what the alte night crowd is like there. Also had a nice time checking out the Erotic Art Museum and just wandering and looking the architecture.

Resting time until heading back out later.

Yeah, and by the time I ended up there, I was hungry for a good sandwich too. St. Louis really doesn't have shit for Cuban food, shame. But, it does make the Cuban places here fun for me.

There are lots of nice women about, not all unfriendly either...although that's not what I meant at that point, although I did notice the beaches don't mind the topless sunbathers.

I may do a wander through the inside of some of the hotels tomorrow early in the evening so I can bring a camera. Don't want to bring out a camera tonight when I go for more of a drinking excursion. I did get outdoor pics of pretty much every hotel on Ocean Drive earlier this evening.

But for later drinking I did prefer the vibe of the area over by Club Duece as personally the whole swanky dance club thing doesn't really do much for me if I'm not holding at least an eight ball.

Doubt I'll make the cab ride to get a burger. I'm just not a burger fanatic and like 'em pretty basic anyway, plenty of places everywhere that can please me well enough there. Getting in a cab to see a bit of Miami proper and off South Beach doesn't sound like an entirely bad idea though.
