looks like that, outside of a couple slight frontrunners, 2005's still wide-open after 1 qtr

I picked up Bloc Party and Picaresque yesterday - haven't listened to BP yet but loving Picaresque so far, damn it's good.

02 "nashville" josh rouse

Do the Dinosaur Jr. reissues count?

I'm guessing not. I've only bought five CDs so far this year (not including the Dino reissues) so I'd put them in this order I think:
1. Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake
2. Decemberists - Picaresque (probably will be number one after a few more listens)
3. Doves - Some Cities
4. Stars - Set Yourself On Fire
5. Low - The Great Destroyer

Not that it really matters, but technically Spoon doesn't count for your question since it won't be released until May. Glad to hear that it will be a good one.

yeah, techincally it doesn't count for the #1 of 2005, which this thread was about... i just felt like supplementing my #1 with all top5...

Are we just counting albums that have officially been released as of 3/22? Seeing that the Mountain Goats have been mentioned twice (and that album comes out 4/26), I'm going to assume that we're just counting whatever we've heard.

In that case, my nomination:

This is why I included Spoon. Wouldn't hurt to actually read a thread every once in a while, would it?

that's fine if including things that haven't been released yet, since they were listened to (aka "acquired") already (in the 1st qtr). the internets are tricky.

I liked these three in no real order: M. Ward, Iron and Wine Ep, Bright Eyes - I'm wide awake

I purchased all 2005 releases with some of my first paycheck "celebratory" money. I'm excited.

maybe the wide awake cd by bright eyes.

I already listed my #1, but thought I should go ahead and round out the top 5...

2. Josh Rouse - Nashville
3. Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs
4. Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak
5. Robbers on High Street - Tree City

There's still a lot that I haven't heard, and a lot that I need to give more listens to. Having said that, my top five this year so far would be:

1 andrew bird
2 m.i.a.
3 josh rouse
4 boom bip
5 fiery furnaces

albums that may creep their way in later:

archer prewitt
13 & god
decemberists
