Does anyone have recent thoughts on this disc?
I just got it as a gift for my birthday and am a little underwhelmed. It seems decent and all, but usually a couple tracks from a disc standout. This one hasn't had any after 2 casual listens.

I wasn't impressed by the songs until I saw them live. It's basically proggier QOTSA with little to no hooks. I have no need to listen to the album, but the live show is strong, which is to be expected.

I'll agree with this...It is a grower however...Lot going on in these songs thanks to JPJ.

Live is a wall of sound, that helps if you know the record beforehand...

i dig it, and look forward to the next record, which I heard they want out sometime in late 2011, after then ext QOTSA record.

Just watched a DVR of their appearance on Austin City Limits, and it was pretty great. John Paul Jones brought it big time, and whipped out some pretty insanely tricked-up basses.

Sure hope we get a second album from these guys. The first one was definitely uneven, but the high points were well worth the few misfires.
