It’s Time (For Me) To Say Goodbye

Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know that today is my last day as editor of Idolator. The site will continue on, and I will continue to write about music, but we’ve decided to part ways. Despite my nominal status as a “writer,â€

Actually Crack asks a good question. Are you writing to Obner to tell us you're leaving your unpaid internet editor job?

it's just news for people who read Idolator. Christopher Weingarten plays a BIG part on that site...

It never gave me free music, and Whiney CMJ is too busy or too cool to post here.

it's an old-school journalism marking. Back in the typewriter/linotype days writers would put a -30- at the end of their copy to indicate that was the end of the story (and there wouldn't be any more pages delivered via the copy boy).

It's largely symbolic nowadays. In that instance, it was Maura's -30-, her closing. Also why the last episode of The Wire was titled "-30-".

I actually met her on Friday when she was in town for a panel of rock hacks/bloggers as part of Fun Fun Fun Fest. Really nice gal and probably the least jaded/cynical/whatever of the bunch. Gave no indication she was stepping down, though during the panel she did express frustration over the site being pared down (she was the only paid staffer left and didn't get a budget to pay freelancers) and the directives handed down from the money people.

That place was good for plenty of news and as Bee said, Whiney used to do great shit over there on the regular. Chris Molanpy's weekly "100 And Single" pop charts breakdowns had some straight-up Economist-level analysis of pop trends every time out.

So yeah, this is some inside baseball stuff and won't affect a good bunch of us. But Idolator losing its franchise player means there's that much less useful music news and tips going on out there. And that plain sucks.

honestly, the web & print could and should get rid of a large portion of so-called music journalists.

this is in no way directed towards you Chad, just saying.

You've now spent about 8 times as much energy bitching about this thread as Bee did making it.

Great job sport.

in fact, i've only done 1.5 times (3 posts to his 2). but i guess if you factor in the text size tags in two posts in a row i did maybe that might equate out to 3 or 4 times more energy, but no way did i put in 8 times as much energy. EIGHT! dont make me rofl

A more appropriate title would have been "editor leaves Idolator".

The fact that the blog remains leaves the "RIP" a little questionable.

I'll just pretend it's someone teabagging. ;)

We always use ### for press releases - what is the difference?
