Sorry to hear about this, TOOKS. Even though there's never a good time, dealing with this stuff around the holidays sucks just that much more.

We're here for you (and by here for you I mean, we will criticize and destroy your taste in music, movies, books or politics at any time outside of this thread, k?)

a guy i know had a testicle removed when some lumps were found. i think he's fine now. but after the procedure, the doctor asked if he wanted a prosthetic replacement. he declined. some other people we know couldn't believe this and said they'd have definitely asked for a replacement. what's the point of a prosthetic ball, other than psychologically?

You don't think a psychological effect is reason enough?

I mean, relatively.

Fuck Cancer.

I wish I knew about this when my Dad had a stroke, but apparently there is a Facebook-style care network thing where you can post reports and info to share with family and friends. It gets exhausting updating every single person individually (but it can be oddly helpful to your own brain).

Not to be dismissive of the seriousness of the situation trying to point out a silver lining, but you will be amazed at how awesome some people you know are, though you didn't realize it before.

Say what you want about this board/community -- first thing I thought of when I read this thread was Pam.

Anybody over 40 get your biannual screening.

Over 30 with family history.

Find those polyps while they're still developing.

Truth, and start doing FOBTs at home as well. Taking an active approach to prevention can improve diagnostics and reduce the severity of outcome. My brother-in-law gets screened yearly at age 35, as his father has been fighting it for years. It's a tough slog, but it's treatable. Good thoughts, toots/rads.

FOBT?

My mother's been a G/I nurse, so I am familiar with some of the colorectal cancer argot, but have no idea what the acronym, above, is.

Fecal occult blood test, unfortunately it's a procedure that people find very distasteful so they tend to not want to do it.

Confirm this.

We've been dealing with some of this shit in my family as well here lately. My positive spin was "Hey, at least its now and not 20 or 30 years ago"

Best thoughts and wishes out to you guys and your families.

I'm sorry toots and rads, my mom got diagnosed with Breast Cancer this week. It is going to require major surgery but luckily doctors are optimistic that it can be contained.

Sorry to hear about this, Dave.

Same with your sister, Rads.

Best wishes to them both.
